How to set PS5 horizontal position?
As you’ve probably noticed, the PS5’s design has moved away from the straight lines of previous consoles, which means there’s actually no flat surface to lay the PS5 on horizontally – this is true for both models, but it’s more evident on the prominent disc drive than on the digital version. Either way, you must attach the included base before using your PS5 in landscape orientation.
First, while facing upward along the bevel of the base, check that the hooks are at the roughly 10 o’clock position – this should be the default out-of-the-box position, but if not, you can rotate the hooks until they turn. Click instead. Next, look for the row of PlayStation symbols on the lower back panel and align the hooks to connect at both ends of the row, then press firmly into the base. You can now position the PS5 horizontally, but note that in this position the base is not firmly attached; so if you try to drag your console and non-slip pads, the base may slip.
How to set up PS5 vertical position
Although it’s a flat surface on the side/underside of the console, it’s narrow and can tip over, so you’ll need to reattach the supplied base to place the PS5 vertically. While looking straight up along the bevel of the base, check that the hooks are aligned at the 12 o’clock position – if not, turn the hooks until they click into place.
Flip the base over and you’ll see a panel pop open to reveal a screw, along with a small indentation to hold the screw hole cover. Remove the screw hole cover from the side/bottom of the console, insert it into the base recess, and then remove the screw. Attach the base to the console, then insert the screw through the center hole and secure it in place – the screw is designed to be tightened with a knife/flathead screwdriver or coin or similar shaped item. Once the base is fixed, you can safely position your PS5 vertically.
