PS3: classic console maintains countless fans to this day

O PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a console that has currently been on the market for 17 years and has brought important advances to the gaming industry.

This continuation of the PlayStation 2 has remarkable titles and impacted the lives of many people, many of whom continue to play it to this day.

According to leaked data from Insomniac Games, as of February 2023, there were approximately 1.9 million individuals actively using the video game.

On the other hand, in the same period in 2021, there were almost 7 million users playing, which is an impressive figure for an item launched, until then, 15 years ago.

Currently, the PlayStation 5 It has been available worldwide for 3 years, but we are still in a transitional period between the different generations of consoles. Therefore, the PS4 still has a larger user base than Sony’s latest model.

Also according to the leaked documentation, it was revealed that the PS4 had 71.5 million users by February 2023, that is, more than double the number recorded on the PS5 to date. However, in just one month, there was a 7% drop in this percentage.

If we were to do a new analysis today, the figures presented are probably much lower, as the PS5 has sold 50 million units. However, this does not necessarily reflect the percentage of active players in a given period.

Returning to PS3this third generation sold a total of 87.4 million models around the world, occupying eighth place on the list of best-selling products in the niche.

Next to the Xbox 360, the PS3 is considered to have brought the most technological innovations, especially in terms of graphics.

But, unfortunately, such an advance was not as significant on the PS4 and PS5, if we compare it to the differences between the PS2 and its successor.

Furthermore, the PlayStation 3 introduced legendary titles such as ‘The Last of Us’, ‘Demon’s Souls’, the ‘Uncharted’ franchise, among other notable names.
