Nintendo Switch: Repair shops overwhelmed by Joy-Con Drift

Since the release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, many users have reported problems with the joysticks of the console’s two controllers, the Joy-Cons. Nintendo has allowed Switch owners to mail in their Joy-Cons for repair since this issue became widespread, but a new report has surfaced. repair process is hell for workshops.

A total of 103 million copies have been sold since its launch in early 2022. No wonder the number of customers affected by the Joy-Con Drift issue has exploded.. With the release of the Switch OLED, Nintendo finally fixed the problem, but realized it was still present in the next generation.

Repair shops go through hell because of Joy-Con Drift

According to a report from Kotaku, repairs to Joy-Cons were not made by Nintendo, but by another company called United Radio. A former manager claims Joy-Cons volume entering the store reaches thousands every week and it was a very stressful experience resulting in high employee turnover and numerous repair failures. Even United Radio set up a brand new workspace just for Joy-Con repair because the number of returns is high.

In the first year of launch, the repair center has replaced Joy-Cons directly, easing some of the burden on staff. But after 2018 the shop had to repair all the Joy-Cons it bought and tried to stay afloat. Nintendo expected the store to repair 90% of returned units within four days.regardless of the current number of employees.

In short, this report shows that Joy-Con Drift is a major issue that Nintendo is far from mastering. Some users have managed to fix the issue using a piece of paper, but this has forced players to disassemble their controllers. It still allowsavoid returning your controller and not being able to play for long weeks.
