Nintendo Switch: A recent patent reveals what the next controller might look like

It’s still hard to be sure the Nintendo Switch Pro exists at this point. Nvidia’s hack sparked the discussion by leaking information about a console with Ampere SoC, but disclosures are still too vague and too subtle to create certainty. The latter presents a brand new Nintendo controller, which is nothing like what we already know about this company. Unfortunately, it’s also pretty sparse in terms of information. The joystick is defined as having a hardware. “battery inserted in the recess of the internal frame” and one “flexible substrate containing a conductive pattern and mounted on the mounting surface of the inner frame”.

It is therefore not sufficient to give a precise image of the object, and even less so of the console for which it is intended. However, the lack of similarity to the Joy-Con raises questions. Could this be a new model of Pro Controller? and for why Key Pro ? Indeed, it is likely that the successor to the Switch will simply be the controller.

Of course, this is all just speculation. It’s not uncommon to see patents pop up on the internet that eventually lead to nothing. Often times, the company behind it wants to protect its project to prevent competition from taking over. But other times they give key informationin subsequent products of a manufacturer. It remains to hope and imagine the improvements that the controller brings, like the end of the Joy-Con slide.
