Lo, after nearly four years have passed, we remain shrouded in mystery regarding the enigmatic “Project 007” crafted by the skilled hands of IO Interactive, makers of the revered Hitman series. Yet, a recent discourse unveils that indeed, the game progresses apace, flourishing splendidly, boasting an innovative rendition of the famed James Bond.
In a parley with IGN, IO Interactive’s venerable CEO Hakan Abrak shed light on the venture, though the veil of secrecy remained. Alas, the anticipation burgeons for a trilogy featuring this newfound Bond, emancipated from the shackles of antecedent lore.
“What’s beguiling about this endeavor is the birth of an original narrative, untethered from cinematic constraints. It forges a genesis of its own, perchance to burgeon into a grand trilogy in time to come,” proclaimed Abrak. “Furthermore, behold a Bond hewn afresh for the gaming realm, fashioned with care and reverence. It is a saga brimming with legacy and history; a veritable bequest bestowing upon gamers a young Bond to claim as their own, to evolve alongside.”
IO Interactive, masters of the clandestine arts from their toils on the Hitman saga, hold their expertise close to heart. Though they remain reticent on whether stealth shall grace the realm of Bond, Abrak hints at forthcoming revelations, unveiled “in due time.”
This discourse marks the first tidings we have received about “Project 007” since the fleeting teaser trailer graced us in bygone days of 2020. Then, we learned of a “wholly original… James Bond origin story,” with IO assuming both developmental and publishing mantles.
This opus shall stand as the premier Bond game since Activision’s “007 Legends” in 2012, a title that ensconced playable missions from the cinematic canon. Yet, the epochal “GoldenEye” 007 for Nintendo, a multiplayer opus of yesteryear, retains its charm on Xbox and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
In a turn of events, IO Interactive unfurled word that they would ally with Build a Rocket Boy, the brainchild of erstwhile Grand Theft Auto luminary Leslie Benzies, to fathom forth their inaugural game, “MindEye.” However, IO makes clear their stance on publishing, stressing their desire for a project that resonates with their ethos both logically and emotionally. “It must capture our essence, our very soul, lest we venture into realms unknown,” Abrak intones.
