The Minecraft Rescue Compass is a new item in the Minecraft The Wild update that helps you find your way back to items lost after death. It’s a pretty handy device if you’re spelling out for diamonds and other resources away from your Minecraft home. But making one isn’t easy as you’ll need a strange selection of materials, including the new Echo Shards, which can only be looted from Ancient Cities in Deep Dark biomes – again new with The Wild update. Here’s what you need to know about the Recovery Compass item in Minecraft and how to create it.
What does the Minecraft Rescue Compass do?
The Minecraft Rescue Compass always shows the location of your most recent death. So, after any unfortunate event, as long as you keep someone ready to catch near your bed, you can quickly locate them and return to the place where you just died. Follow the compass’s instructions and then you can recover all your valuables and some of your hard-earned XP.
However, the Rescue Compass will only show your most recent death, provided you’re the same size as the one you died in. So, for example, if you die in the Overworld and then go to the Nether, the Rescue Compass will spin wildly. Until I return to the Overworld.
How to make a Recovery Compass
To make yourself a Minecraft Rescue Compass, you will need a regular Compass and eight Echo Pieces. To loot the eight Echo Shards you will need to explore the Ancient City located in the Deep Dark biome. This will require a lot of reconnaissance and stealth to avoid the Guardians, so be careful. Once you have the eight pieces, take them and your Compass to a crafting table and arrange the pieces in a square around the Compass. Ta-dah! You can now find your lost items after you die!
If you need a basic compass first, then you can either get a naturally created compass from a structure like a Shipwreck, Village, or Ancient City, or create one with:
- 1 Redstone Powder
- 4 Iron Ingots
But if you do get one, don’t forget to leave the Minecraft Rescue Compass near your spawn point so it’s ready to pick up when you die. Then you have to get all your stuff back…
