Grounded Pets explained, including feeding, taming, and more

Grounded pets can be tamed by building a special pet house and then using a Shredder to create a slurry of fungi, spoiled meat or plants depending on whether it is aphids, mosquitoes or lice. Then you feed the pet the right slurry, and if you have a house to keep it in, you can hide it there. The pets in Grounded admittedly don’t do much when tamed, but they do help in some ways and if you’ve built a great base it can be nice to have an Aphid or Weevil lick your face when you walk in. gate. Below we’ll tell you more about how to tame pets in Grounded, what they do, and what you need to tame them.

Grounded Pets are attracted by the slurry that players drop in front of them from their inventory. Players must use slurry made from Shredders built into your base and place them next to the pet they want to tame. The slurry corresponds to each pet as follows:

  • Herb Slurry (made from Milling Plant Fibers): aphids
  • Mushroom Slurry (Made from Shredder Mushroom, Mushroom Pieces or Mushroom Pieces): lice
  • Spoiled Meat Slurry (obtained by Grinding any Spoiled Meat): mosquitoes

Once you have Slurry for the bug you want, approach a wild version of that bug and drop it in front of them. They must realize this and eat – on top of that they will be tamed! From then on they will be a pet, following you – as with all pets, this one comes with certain blessings and responsibilities.

We are also not sure if there will be more pets in the future. As outlined in our Grounded 1.0 guide, Obsidian said new creatures are coming, so it’s possible for some of them to be tamed. They’ve also planned “Ant Pheromone control” which sounds similar, but it will probably be more about making them attack enemies rather than temporarily moving them or befriending them.

The main (but not the only) feature of the pets in Grounded is that each pet gives the player it follows a passive buff that changes depending on the creature. Here’s what they offer:

  • aphids: Decreases stamina discharge rate during sprinting.
  • Insects: Dehydration reduces the rate of evacuation.
  • Mosquitoes: Increases glide speed with Dandelion Tuft.

Pets also have 10 inventory slots on them, allowing players to store stuff in their pet and treat him like a pack horse, a handy feature to say the least. We’ve also heard that pets can craft or dig up certain items, but we’ve yet to see this happen and can’t confirm.

Finally, players can craft and equip pets with “Pet Outfits”, pet-specific clothing, and armor that makes them more durable, among other things. And no, the standard Grounded armor model for humans will not work on them – for this you need to make special mini-helmets and goggles.

Pets have a happiness stat that players have to maintain, as if a pet has become very unhappy. Stop being your pet and leaving. His animations are starting to change and he’s getting more unhappy if he’s getting close to that point, or you can check his happiness from the Pet House menu. You can increase a pet’s happiness by doing the following:

  • Give the pet all kinds of clothes
  • Tame him by getting close and pressing the marked button
  • Feed it the slurry you used to tame it
  • Spend regular time with them and take them with you.
  • Do not let him be injured or attacked.

Yes, as long as you don’t turn it off from the menu when installing a new game, pets can die, pets can be killed, and they can’t defend themselves other than trying to escape the threat.

Predatory insects will attack if they see pets, and if a pet dies, it’s gone forever, leaving a “Pet Memorial” that functions the same as the backpack left by dead players. Put Pet Attire on them to increase their armor, health, and overall stamina.

The Pet House isn’t entirely necessary to owning a pet, but it’s definitely worth having. Pet Houses are unlocked by analyzing Mushroom Bricks and can be built anywhere (ideally your base) with the recipe below.

  • Grass Root x2
  • Acorn Shell x1
  • Mushroom Brick x4
  • Crow Feather Fragment x2

Your pet can be assigned to a Pet House (they only house one bug at a time), where you can check their stats, rename them, and equip them with the outfits you’ve prepared for them.
