Changes in sight: Xbox 360 store to be discontinued by Microsoft

A Microsoft made an impactful decision for Xbox 360 users by announcing the closure of the console’s online store starting July 29, 2024. With this change, players will no longer be able to purchase new games, DLCs and other content through the Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace.

Although it is a farewell moment for the iconic platform, the company has ensured that those who have already purchased games digitally will still be able to enjoy them even after the store closes.

Gamers who have purchased a collection of digital games can breathe a sigh of relief, as Microsoft has assured that all purchased games will remain available for download. So if you had plans to buy an exclusive game or ancillary titles that were pending, the deadline is until the end of July next year.

One of the main concerns of fans concerns multiplayer games. Microsoft understands that as long as the game publisher continues to support online servers, it will be possible to continue playing online with friends. This means that even after the store closes, multiplayer fun will still be accessible.

Additionally, Microsoft sought to ensure continuity of the gaming experience by allowing Xbox 360 game progress to be saved in the cloud. This makes it possible for players to continue their journey on later consoles such as the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, without losing the progress made in the games.

Another notable change is the removal of the Movies and TV application from the Xbox 360 console. Once the store closes, it will no longer be possible to watch movies purchased through the console.

However, players will still have access to their library of content purchased through the app. Microsoft Movies & TV, available on devices running Windows 10 or later, as well as on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
