President of Abragames comments on the growth of the gaming market in Brazil

In a recent interview with the website MyPSgranted during the Big Festival 2023 event, the president of the Brazilian Association of Game Developers (Abragames), Rodrigo Terra, commented on public policies and the growing video game market in Brazil.
In addition, he gathered forms that will be used in the second National Games Industry Survey. Rodrigo spoke about the history of the games market in Brazil and explained how Abragames, together with ApexBrasil and other events, help to boost the Brazilian market:
“Over the last 15 years, we have gone from a market where Brazilian gamers were even prejudiced against local games to one where developers are beginning to grow in quality: new mechanics and genres have been created, in addition to a new narrative diversity that explores the multicultural aspect of Brazil. Today, these studios that were small 15 years ago are now medium or large in size and are able to negotiate with major publishers.”
In Terra’s view, Brazil will experience promising growth and is capable of reaching the ranking of the five largest game producers in the world. This excitement comes after the results of the first National Survey of the Games Industry, which revealed a 169% increase in the number of Brazilian studios, rising from 375 to 1,009.
“Our big dream is for Brazil to become one of the five largest game producers in the world. Whether it will be AAA or indie, we don’t know yet.”

He also commented on Brazil’s political role in games, with the promotion of Brazilian culture, which can reshape world perceptions through video games:
“Brazil can have a very important position as a policy maker, and demonstrating this through games can show the international market that they need to come here to learn more about us.”
A 2nd National Games Industry Survey is available for developers to participate, and the deadline to respond to the form ends today, July 15th.
