All Halo Infinite gear items and how to use them

Halo Infinite Gear items can really help you in battle by providing defensive support, extra agility, or even just an extra layer of protection. However, knowing as much as possible about how they work and how to use them can help you gain an edge over your Halo Infinite competitors. You’ll find returning abilities like Thruster from Halo 5: Guardians and the classic Overshield and Active Camo, as well as some new abilities like Grappleshot and Repulsor from Halo Infinite battlefields. Here’s what you need to know about Halo Infinite’s Equipment items and how they work in multiplayer.

How does equipment work in Halo Infinite?

Halo Infinite Spartan Cores

Use Halo Infinite Spartan Cores to upgrade the Master Chief’s campaign gear

Equipment items return to the Halo series with Halo Infinite, most recently getting a decent look in Halo 3 and replaced with Armor Abilities in Halo: Reach. These loose items can be found and equipped on the battlefield to give yourself an extra edge in battle. Some increase your mobility, while others allow you to be more defensive and resist attacks from other players. Halo Infinite has seven pieces of Gear in-game, but two of them – Top Shield and Active Camouflage – are Power Gear items, meaning they only spawn on certain maps and at certain times in the same way as power weapons.

If you don’t already have an equipment item stored, any Equipment item in Halo Infinite will be retrieved automatically when you walk over it. You can see what you have by looking at the box in the lower right corner of your screen, next to your grenade counter. Each piece of Equipment has its own icon, so be sure to learn how to distinguish them. Press the equipment button to use your existing Equipment – this is RB in the default controller layout or Q on the keyboard – or if you find another item you prefer, you can change it by following the button prompt.

You will also notice that a number appears next to the Equipment item icon, showing how many uses you have for that equipment. You can get extra uses for your current Gear by hovering over another item from the same item, but not all Gear can get the same number of default and maximum uses. Power Equipment is disposable and provides a passive benefit for a limited time. You can only hold one at a time, but you can use one piece of Power Equipment and get it right away. a different Equipment item.

Except for Top Shield and Active Camouflage, all Equipment items have short cooldowns of no more than a few seconds between uses, but there is a slight variation. Grappleshot has almost no cooldown, while Falling Wall has a relatively substantial cooldown, but still only a few seconds – long enough to keep you from spamming just shield walls. Here’s what we think of each gear item in Halo Infinite multiplayer.

falling wall

Learn about all Halo Infinite weapons here.

The Falling Wall is a one-way shield that you can throw and use as a bit of cover. Being unidirectional means you can hit the shield from behind, not from the front. The shield is divided into 15 different panels, each of which can only be destroyed by three shots from an Assault Rifle, so it’s a pretty weak shield, but provides enough protection to fire a few shots at your enemy before you get hit. It can also block grenades, so if your reactions are good enough, you can place a Wall of Fall to block a few explosives. It’s not a solid object though, so players and vehicles can pass through it. After throwing a Falling Wall, it self-destructs after 10 seconds.

clamp

Of course Halo Infinite has a hook and comes in the form of Grappleshot. Players can tap the Equipment button to quickly throw the hook and quickly roll towards the hook point. It is an incredibly fun Equipment item to use and can be used in some creative ways. You can grab enemies to kill (it pairs well with the Energy Sword), use it to quickly traverse a map with a good hit, or lure yourself into hard-to-reach ledges very quickly. It can even pick up weapons and CTF Flags from afar!

When flying, you have some mid-air control and can swing with the hook, but if you look too far from the hook point you will break the grapple line. Pressing the Equipment button or the Crouch button while grappling will also cut the line early, but if you cut the line by crouching, you will slide when you hit the ground. Also note the yellow dot in the middle of your crosshair with Grappleshot equipped – it appears when the surface or object you’re looking at is within range of your hook.

repulsive

The Repulsor is the ultimate grenade and melee repeller. Using the blaster causes your Spartan to quickly fire a wrist-mounted blast, which turns everything back on. The most obvious use is to keep enemies (perhaps those with swords, hammers, or shotguns) away from you, but this also works against vehicles and even rockets and grenades. If you can react quickly enough, deflecting a thrown Plasma Grenade with the Thrust will almost always cause it to fly back and stick to the person throwing it.

If you want to use the Repulsor for more deadly purposes, using the map to your advantage is essential, as you can bait enemies to the edge of a map and throw them into the abyss. Spraying an enemy into a wall while at incredibly low health might be enough to kill them and get a ‘Pancake’ medal.

Threat Sensor

The Threat Sensor is a small device that can be fired like a sticky grenade to reveal the positions of nearby enemies. When the sensor sticks to a surface, or even another player, it emits several pulses that highlight enemies in range with a red silhouette, even through solid objects like walls and cover. Each senor lasts six seconds as soon as it hits the surface, so you’ll have ample time to research your enemies and make your move or respond to their incoming attacks. However, please note that the Threat Sensor does not counter Active Camouflage!

repulsive

The thruster equipment item gives you a few charges for a propellant pack that allows you to perform a fast, short-range lateral dash. Its main use is as a dodge tool, as a quick dash back or to the side can be enough to give you a little extra cover or throw your opponent’s aim. You can also use the Thrust more aggressively to bridge the gap between you and the enemy, or use it to jump farther in the air than usual and unlock new passageways on tight 4v4 arena maps.

Active Camouflage

Active Camo has been in some form in most Halo games, but is incredibly powerful in Halo Infinite. Using this Power Gear will render you almost completely invisible for approximately 30 seconds from the time you activate it. It will be very hard to spot with only slight ripples giving you away as you move. Invisibility is temporarily suspended when you fire your weapon, melee, throw a grenade, or sprint, but if you stop running or attacking, you’ll become invisible again. To make matters worse for your opponents, while you are invisible you are invisible to motion trackers and cannot be detected by Threat Sensors, meaning the only way to get detected is with your opponents’ sharp eyes.

top shield

Overshield is a classic Halo buff making a return in Halo Infinite. Using this Power Gear item will add an extra layer of protection to your health bar that degrades over time. From the moment the Upper Shield activates, it takes approximately 40 seconds to completely decay. You will notice that the health bar at the top of your screen turns yellow when you have an active Top Shield, but the yellow bar will shrink when the shield is broken. Other than that, it makes it almost twice as hard to kill you, exactly like a normal shield.
