You are now a magician [insert name here], and these Hogwarts Legacy tips will help you learn the magical ropes fast. There’s a lot going on in the non-Harry Potter game, and there’s a strange mix of open-world freedom and tightly controlled story-gated progression. So if you want help with spells, gear and general pointers to avoid wasting time in Hogwarts Legacy, check out these tips for Hogwarts Legacy and learn faster.
1. Always use Revelio to reveal hidden things in the world and gain XP faster
Revelio is basically wizard vision and will highlight objects in the world, enemies and more. It walks through walls, revealing enemies, loot, interactive objects, and basically anything else you might need or want. Always use it exactly for this reason. It will also spawn numerous Field Guide Pages for you to collect, which can often spawn in some humble places. Of all the Hogwarts Legacy spells you will unlock, this is the one you will use the most.
2. Almost everything you can do is locked behind the main mission checkpoints
You may want to go to the branches to get your Hogwarts Legacy broomstick or learn a specific one of the Hogwarts Legacy spells right away, but the game certainly won’t let you do anything before it’s ready. Everything is locked behind the story, so don’t waste your time trying to look for anything, you’ll get it when it’s allowed and ASAP.
3. Always check your gear to replace it with higher level stuff to improve your stats
You’ll pretty much be wearing slightly better mage outfits the entire time you play. Lots of gear to hoard means you’ll often forget to check what you’re collecting. Make sure to check back regularly as you’ll always get pretty quick improvements in your stats by shifting into better gear. When collecting items, you’ll see a green arrow next to them showing better stats (and red if they’re weaker), so if you can, swap items as soon as you see them.
4. Always stop by a dealer whenever you see a dealer to empty your Gear Slots and earn cash
you will get share Hogwarts Legacy has loads of gear from scarves to hats to cloaks to clothes, but you only start the game with a total of 20 Gear Slots (combining all your various clothing items into a single total). Until you start completing the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials to provide you with more gear slots, you should make a habit of selling anything you don’t wear to vendors in Hogsmeade or to the trash around the larger map. You can destroy items if you’re desperate, but you should get the money if you can.
5. Whether you sell it or not, you keep all the clothes you find for the transmog.
You find a lot of clothing and other accessories in your adventures in Hogwarts Legacy, and most of them are downright awful. Luckily, the game has the transmog right from the start, which means you can pimp your witch or wizard with exactly the kind of look you want – rather than a mess of whatever your ultimate kit is. Change the look of each of your clothes by hovering over them by pressing the square or X, and you’ll find that you’ve retained the look of everything you’ve ever bought – even if you’ve sold it. It’s useful for maintaining that tough look you know, regardless of what gear you’re actually wearing.
6. Eye chests are a quick way to earn cash quickly
You’ll see Hogwarts Legacy eye chests pretty early in the game and you’ll probably wonder what to do with them. Unlocking them will get you 500 Galleons, which is useful cash, but like everything else in the game, it’s story dependent. So keep playing the main quests until you see the ‘Secrets of the Limited Chapter’ quest. Doing so will unlock the Disappointment spell that makes you more or less invisible. Once you get it, you can sneak into the eyeball chests and open them to get the money inside.
7. You can change your hair and facial features in Hogsmeade.
Don’t fret if you regret the choices you made in the character creator. In a small shop in Hogsmeade you can change your hair color, style, eyebrows and facial features such as scars and freckles. Head to Madam Snelling’s Tress Shop and for a small fee you can change your look anytime. You can’t change your overall face though, so I’m afraid you’re stuck with it. No Polyjuice Elixir for you.
8. Gather every ingredient you see, as they will all be useful in making potions later on.
As you run, fly or fly around the map, you may encounter potion ingredients growing in the wild. Some ingredients, such as Horklump Juice and Jumping Toadstools, are essential for crafting beneficial concoctions such as Wiggenwald Elixir and Erdurus Elixir. Gather as many wild ingredients as you can to save yourself time later. There is no maximum capacity for materials your character can hold, so it’s better to take as much as you can.
9. Quests tell you what rewards you will get when you complete them.
If you want to know if a quest is worth your efforts, check the quests menu to see what rewards you’ll get when you complete the quest. These can range from unique spells to new Gear skins, gold and more. Sometimes you can even choose to trick the quest giver, keeping your rewards as well as anything they want you to buy for them. Sometimes you can even blackmail them to get more gold, but the next time you meet them, you should expect them to be quite angry with you and make meaningful comments about your betrayal.
