The first partnership between the character Superboy It is Super Shock turns out to be evidence that reinforces the idea that they should reunite in the current DC canon. These two fan-favorite characters had their respective debuts in the mid-1990s and ended up meeting at least once during that period, having even crossed the entire extended universe just to work together.
Almost 30 years have passed and the spirit of this super-iconic and joyful partnership between the teenage heroes is exactly what fans have been looking for for a long time. In the case of both Superboy and Static, they were products/projects that ended up being the result of a certain very particular sensitivity of the 1990s.
This particular sensibility of the 1990s was one that was intended to attract teenage readers. Superboy was a character who debuted shortly after Superman’s death in the main continuity of the DC Universe.
He began his career as a hero when he was considered one of the possible replacements for Superman (if Superman could be replaced), but ended up becoming a character with a long solo series and a supporting cast exclusive to his series.
On the other hand, Static has always been his own hero and debuted in Static #1. Although Superboy and Static debuted in the DC Universe in the same month, that is, in June 1993, they ended up being separated due to their respective publishing universes.
However, this was changed during the year 1994, as that year there would be the event crossover titled “Worlds Collide” between DC and Milestone, which ended up seeing its Milestone characters and the heroes of Metropolis in a joint work.
In both Static and Superboy’s cases, they ended up taking the spotlight in “Worlds Collide” in “Superboy #7”, by Karl Kesel, Tom Grummett, Doug Hazlewood, Tom McCraw and Richard Starkings.
In short, there are bigger problems at hand, but this conflict always sees Superboy, Static, and their fellow Milestone hero Rocket working together to stop a tidal wave from hitting Metropolis. DC has promised fans that they’ll bring them back together, this time in 2023.
