As “One Piece” reintroduced a pirate who had long been forgotten by the time Luffy and his crew arrived at the next island, it only proves that the series is officially out of ideas. So what happens on the outskirts of Egghead Island just reverses the first thing that happened when part of the crew arrived on Zou.
Some time earlier in “One Piece”, Luffy and some of his crew arrived at Zou Island (a giant elephant that walks in the sea) to try to reunite with the rest of their crew after they had been separated.
As they climb aboard the massive animal, the first islander they see is falling from the sky into the sea. The inhabitant is not human and prepares readers for the strange creatures that will be encountered on Zou, known as Minks.
Similarly, in chapter 1061 of the series, Luffy and his crew become enamored with a mechanical shark submarine on the outskirts of the island. During their battle, a random person literally emerges from the water, revealing himself to be the long-lost pirate Bonney, also known as part of the Worst Generation Pirates who appeared much earlier in the plot.
“One Piece”: Bonney’s reappearance only serves to repair the “tired ground”
When comparing the two situations side by side, in one incident we see someone random falling from above, while in the other we see a person emerging from below, both of which occur right when Luffy arrives at the next island.
Some may say that this similarity is meaningless, but it is very important to highlight that what sets “One Piece” apart from other mangas is its world-building. Therefore, the introduction of each island plays a very important role in the entire series, as each one has its own story.
And it is right at this arrival that the first mystery of many that will appear is revealed. Furthermore, the series’ obsession with ensuring that everything that happens is somehow connected proves its attention to detail; so it is unlikely that this repetition could be an oversight.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time this had happened. When he invaded Impel Down previously, Luffy was forced to descend into the deepest levels of the prison in an attempt to free his sake brother, Ace.
During the Wano saga, he had to climb up, rather than down, another very important structure, Skull Dome, the castle where the Yonko Kaidou lives. Much like Impel Down, Luffy’s ascent takes a few chapters; this makes us think that he will undoubtedly reach Kaidou in the thousandth chapter rather than getting there earlier.
Finally, we can say that this is just a recent example proving that “One Piece” is a collection of frequently repeated stories. Of course, in isolation, Bonney’s reappearance in the series is not a bad story, but it is clear that this moment and the others before it are just repeating the same situations, just in different ways.
