After receiving acclaim and the prestigious Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in ‘The Whale’, Brendan Fraser opted for a waiting period before diving into a new film project.
Since his incredible achievement in March this year, Fraser has stayed out of the spotlight, wisely choosing his next role before returning to the cameras.
Fraser has already chosen his next role
Although he is currently on the big screen in a supporting role as a lawyer in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, alongside giants such as Martin ScorseseRobert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, filming took place in 2021, before his Oscar win.

The project that finally captured Fraser’s attention and commitment is ‘Rental Family’, a production for the prestigious studio Searchlight Pictures, a subsidiary of Disney recognized for releasing films that frequently stand out in the Oscar race.
This new film revolves around a depressed actor living in Tokyo who is hired to play a typical American model for a family-owned Japanese rental company that provides professional replacement services.
The plot promises a unique journey of self-discovery, revealed through the multiple roles that the protagonist assumes in other people’s lives. ‘Hikari’, co-writer of the script, collaborates with Stephen Blahut, director of photography for ’37 Seconds’.
Filming is scheduled to begin between March and June 2024 in Japan, although the premiere date has not yet been confirmed.
According to Deadline, Fraser’s decision was slightly delayed by the SAG-AFTRA union strike; however, the actor remained patient in choosing his next role after his success in Oscar.
When the script for ‘Restaurant Family’ finally came along, it was a call that was hard to ignore, leading him to enthusiastically commit to starring in it.
