Although in today’s Marvel Comics Thanos if he proves to be the greatest among all of Adam Warlock’s enemies, his first enemy still proves to be much more deadly than Thanos, and his name is Beast Man.
Even though comic book fans choose to think otherwise, in reality Thanos is not actually Adam Warlock’s greatest enemy. Instead, the honor of being Adam Warlock’s greatest enemy goes to Beast Man.
The conflicts that occur between Adam Warlock and Thanos are, without a shadow of a doubt, the stuff of Marvel legend, making the creators feel inspired to tell some of the publisher’s best stories.
In “Incredible Hulk # 176-178”, released in 1974, we can see that Beast Man ends up conquering Counter-Earth, declaring, shortly after, that his number one enemy is Adam Warlock.
Furthermore, once Beast Man decides to unleash his full fury, it may indeed be too much even for someone with Adam Warlock’s power level.
As you may have noticed, Beast Man was Adam Warlock’s enemy long before Thanos. And in many ways, he still remains one of the most deadly.
We can easily reach this conclusion, since Beast Man was able to imprison and incapacitate Warlock on two separate occasions, an unbelievable feat.
And this is even more incredible when we realize the brutal power that Adam Warlock was endowed with. After Beast Man’s second attempt, Adam Warlock was finally able to become the hero he was meant to be, in fact.
This is because, later, Adam Warlock became the intergalactic messiah who was able to overthrow the Magus, the Church of Universal Truth, and Thanos.
To help him defeat the Man-Beast, Warlock needed to learn how to use the Soul Jewelwhich would eventually become his trademark.
The interesting thing, finally, is that Warlock’s story can be read in parallel to that of Jesus Christ. So, then, Thanos was not the greatest enemy that the blond villain had to face.
