Recently, a preview of the new Spider-Man work, produced by Marvel Comics, was made available. In it, it is possible to see Peter Parker receiving a new cosmic, but secret, title, thus bringing even greater weight to the Spider-Verse. However, it is now being proven that Peter Parker is much more than a simple web-slinger. But, while Marvel is finishing the next chapters of “End of the Spider-Verse” there is a good reason to believe that Spider-Man of Earth-616, the universe where most of Marvel’s stories take place, will be the first hero to be targeted by the forces of darkness.

However, the Spider-Man from Earth-616 is not the strongest of them all, much less the oldest or the most experienced, but he is simply the first character that Marvel decided to invest in before all the other heroes derived from the OG Webslinger of New York. Thus, the Peter Parker of Earth-616 ended up assuming the title of leader over a multitude of Spider-Men, in addition to becoming the only one to fight an Heir and live to tell the tale. But now, we understand that there was a much bigger reason why he had stayed alive.

In “Spider-Man #1” created by Dan Slott and Mark Bagley, the hero is seen being watched by the villain Shathra, also known as Spider-Wasp. However, Peter Parker of Earth-616 is also being monitored by his allies Madame Web, Araña and Spider-UK. Aware that Shathra is planning a means of carrying out an attack on the Spider-Verse, Madame Web calls upon all the Spider-Men present on Earth-616 to protect Peter at all costs, thus giving him a much greater significance than he appeared to have for the Spider-Verse as a whole. And, even though they don’t officially admit it, Spider-Man of Earth-616 is referred to as “The Chosen One” throughout the preview. Clearly Peter Parker is assuming a much greater cosmic relevance than that of the first web-slinging hero created by Marvel Comics.
