After the success of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘, director James Gunn spoke to Cooper about the role of Lex Luthor; however, due to different career focuses, they opted for Nicholas Hoult to play the character.
While Cooper is a recognized talent, his recent direction and selective approach to on-camera roles led to the casting of Hoult, whose age is close to that of David Corenswet, who plays the hero, which helped keep the hero-villain dynamic cohesive.
This casting choice could have significantly changed the dynamic of the film, given the age difference between Cooper, who is 48, and the rest of the main cast.
Hoult, at 33, offers an approach closer to Corenswet’s age range, who is 30, ensuring a harmony in the narrative.
