Batman performs disturbing ritual on his birthday; check out the details!

It is already a fact that Batman is one of the darkest and most famous characters in DC Comics. What many don’t know, however, is that much of his darkness can appear due to his birthday ritual. That’s right!

The path that this hero’s life takes was decided when his parents were murdered by robber Joe Chill. It was there that Batman had to face the most terrifying moment of his life. Because of this, Bruce Wayne began to develop and train every day to be able to assume the title of “Dark Knight” and thus prevent other people from ending up with an end similar to that of his parents.

Extremely focused on his recovery, Bruce developed a birthday ritual that was so dark that even Alfred and Damian began to worry about what was happening. In “Detective Comics #999”, created by Peter Tomasi and Doug Mahnke, we see Batman being pushed to his limit as the hero sees everyone he loves die, in addition to being continually pursued by one of the worst villains ever seen.

In the context in which he is involved in all these tragic events, Bruce ends up meeting himself, but in a younger version. The person responsible for everything he had faced at that time was none other than himself; this is because every year Bruce designs a virtual scenario for his training, which is prepared to take both his physical form and his mentality to the extreme.

However, this ritual only occurs because Bruce constantly needs tragedies to feed himself and continue his purpose, even though everyone around him may die. So, he decides to train himself to continue fighting the worst of his villains, even though it is possible that they all unite and become one.

And when we consider that all of the aforementioned horrors were created by Bruce Wayne himself, the idea becomes extremely dark and terrifying. But before he can leave the simulation, there is one more dark ritual he must complete.

The aforementioned ritual involves facing his childhood in a grave next to his parents. And according to the narrative, his younger self claims that “Three people were murdered outside the Monarch Theater that night.”

The price Bruce paid to assume the title of Batman was to give up himself, his childhood and his innocence in exchange for saving many lives.

Finally, there is a dialogue between his older version and his younger one that says:

“I still wish you could have the chance to be a little more of a kid. It’s okay. So many other kids have gotten it, why can’t we?”
