Xiaomi introduced Mi Watch Color, the watch linked with hundreds of wrong combinations

Xiaomi is known for its incredible value for money products. A few phone-related examples: Mi 9T Pro, the cheapest smartphone from Qualcomm equipped with Snapdragon 855; Redmi Note 8 Pro, excellent phablet very affordable, but do not forget to be very complete. Accessibility has therefore become the Chinese brand’s main selling point.

And it was confirmed again this week. The brand has indeed presented the Mi Watch Color, a connected watch that runs on Wear OS. We’ll come back to the technical aspect in a few lines. Note, however, that Xiaomi promotes its watch using two arguments: price and customization. The amount demanded by the brand for this watch; Just over 799 yuan or 100 euros.

On the personalization side, the Chinese firm is very successful as it has announced 1540 possible combinations on its website to customize the watch and adapt it to any outfit. 1540 combinations, powerful!… Or not. Because in reality you don’t have many permutations in the Mi Watch Color ecosystem. There are two boxes (black and gray). It has seven different straps, one of which is leather. So you get 14 bracelet/case combinations. Where did the remaining 1526 combinations go?

Purely marketing argument

You have to look at the software side. Because Mi Watch Color’s interface It has 110 different wallpapers. Then you get 1540 combinations. Good account, Master Capello! Note that other permutations are planned, especially thanks to a gold case that will increase their number to more than 2300 (not counting possible future watch faces).

Fortunately, Mi Watch Color has other arguments. This time it’s technique. Its round AMOLED screen measures 1.39 inches.. The definition is 454 x 454 pixels. The case is waterproof (5 ATM certified) and stainless steel. Its battery is 420mAh, 14 days of declared autonomy (This can be up to 22 days by cutting certain sensors like GPS). It includes a Bluetooth 5.0 connection for connecting to a smartphone, an NFC sensor, a microphone for talking to a voice assistant, a GPS sensor (Glonass), a heart rate monitor, a gyroscope and even an accelerometer.
