Samsung Orbis: 64 Bit Exynos 7420 processor for smartwatch

Lifting the curtain on “only” two products, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, during MWC 2015, Samsung said it wanted to “take a break” from the connected watch market a few days later. But Korean is good a new smart watch in its boxes. It’s a very high-end product that could be equipped with the same processor as the last two flagships and should be revealed during the next IFA in September.

After releasing the Gear S, an ambitious smartwatch that can make calls without being paired with a smartphone, Samsung should iterate by adding to its catalog what we already find in the competition but not in itself: round shaped smart watch currently known by the codename “Orbis”. This will be expected under Tizen and will offer a physical wheel like the Apple Watch.

According to a new report from Korea, this new connected watch is a Exynos 7420 processor, in other words, the latest Korean chip found in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Thanks to its 14 nanometer engraving, this new processor makes it possible to offer better performance, but above all Energy consumption reduced by 30% to 35%.

Of course, the main interest here isimprove the autonomy of the smart watchBut isn’t it too ambitious for Samsung to use the same processor in its high-end smartphone and its next connected watch? Of course, we can only imagine that two or four of the processor cores will be enabled, eight cores are useless in a smartwatch anyway.

Currently, the Sony Smartwatch 3 is the only connected watch that can perform well with 48 hours of battery life, while the Gear S offers around 24 hours of endurance. The Apple Watch, which became official last week, offers 18 hours of autonomy. One point Sony didn’t forget to highlight on Twitter a few hours after the presentation of its rival’s watch.
