Oculus Rift creator compares Google Cardboard to muddy water

First introduced in 2012, the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset represented the future of this technology. But the helmet will be released in the first half of 2016, which leaves time for some competitors such as HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, PlayStation VR or Google Cardboard to launch.

It is the latter. Google may not offer the best virtual reality experience with its Cardboard, but it has the advantage of selling its headset for a few euros. The only requirement is to have a smartphone. You can even make your own using the downloadable plan.

The Oculus Rift will sell for around €350 with the need to have a PC with a powerful configuration. The quality of rendering, software and compatible games will obviously not be of the same quality as those found in Cardboard 2.

However, one user still tried to ask Oculus founder Palmer Luckey if the Rift could stay competitive without offering a more attractive price point, citing Cardboard’s price. The answer did not take long and does not take tweezers:

Yes, because the Rift is really good. It’s a bit like fine wine compared to muddy water.

It’s a pretty throat-level challenge for Google’s virtual reality glasses. If you have not had the opportunity to test it yet, it is possible to order from different sites in different qualities. If you want to take advantage of the original Google Cardboard V2, we recommend this site in French. Here to make them yourself.
