Linky is not dangerous to health, according to a new study
A technology known to free users and others who use PLC sockets to connect internet-connected equipment in remote areas of their homes. The “problem” is that the PLC adds a frame to the three-phase current, and it is this frame at high frequency that is accused of significantly increasing the levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by these equipments, and thus the Linky counter also uses this technology. So far, no studies have succeeded in demonstrating that these emissions pose any health hazards. This does not prevent various independent players from regularly introducing new measures.
However, the readings by the firm Exem (located in Greater Toulouse), once again, do not allow us to conclude that there is any danger: “The measurement of the magnetic field around a dwelling is 0.0095 microtesla, while the regulatory value allows up to 6.25 microtesla”, say our colleagues from La Dépêche. And to add to that we are at 0.24 volts per meter for the electric field. “when allowed up to 87 volts per meter”. Of course, getting detailed results would be very helpful – the article in La Dépêche actually gives only a few details about the conditions under which these measurements were made.
Second precautionary campaign to find out if Linky’s remote transmissions are dangerous
Also, we don’t really know how independent the aforementioned Exem firm, the winner of the Enedis competition in 2015, is from the manager of Linky meter installations, as stated on its website. However, we learn that the mayor probably doesn’t want to stop there and will launch a second measurement campaign if there has been an increase in emissions during remote transmission of readings and if this stays within allowable limits.
