Another pullback for Google Glass, Google has decided to close physical stores and demo offices. This is not the disappearance of the Google product, the service will now be fully online for purchase, support or repair.
The 4 “basecamps” reserved for Google Glass will therefore soon close their doors and already closed to the public. These shops, which also serve as showrooms in the United States and London, no longer allow you to buy your glasses or even just come and try them, which is the main concern of this decision.
Because online purchasing and repair is viral applications and it is becoming more and more common and provides a certain economy for companies. Nevertheless, these few Google Glass ‘showcase’ places allowed them to be tested without the promise of purchase that we can no longer reach.
Although a declared failure according to many Google Glass, Google makes a decision in this direction, and we even get the impression that Google has given up on its product. We’ll see its success (or not) in France, with its planned release in 2015.
Google Glass Community Manager Becca Samson justifies Google’s decision:
Remember when everyone had to go to Basecamp to get their glasses? As more and more people go to the stores in person, we introduced new ways to buy glasses, such as the website or the Play Store. We now see that most of our sales and technical support requests are made online or over the phone.now we focus more on these tools.
According to Becca Samson, these closures were only announced as most purchases were made online. What do you think ? Will Google Glass really be an early failure?
