If you are into interconnected objects, the name Pebble cannot escape you. With 700 thousand smartwatches were sold in 2014, this company has been talked about even though its sales fell short of the 1.2 million connected watches sold by Samsung last year. Today, the start-up gives us an idea about its two rivals, none other than Samsung and Apple, and according to him, he doesn’t seem to understand the concept of two giant smartwatches.
Pebble spokesperson Monica Isla said: About the Apple Watch and Samsung’s linked watches during an interview with the Trustedreviews site a few days ago:
I think they exaggerate what people do with it. We do not overlook the fact that it is a watch (…) Many people overlook the fact that it is a watch. This is not a phone, not a gadget.
He then goes on to say on the Apple Watch:
When I first saw the Apple Watch video presentation and saw all these app bubbles on the watch interface, I thought to myself, what the hell is this? (…) Who looks at the card on their wrist?
While Pebble Time has recently met its Kickstarter funding goal in record time before being backed by a high-end Pebble Time Steel, the start-up now sees itself well on its way to success on Kickstarter, the connected objects marketplace in 2015.
People will want $5,000 watches, but that’s not us. We are not trying to be trendy, we are trying to be relevant.
Meanwhile, Samsung recently said it wants to “take a break” from the smartwatch market. Apple, for its part, officially launched the Apple Watch earlier this week. A high-end connected watch that costs between 399 and 18,000 euros.
