Intel unveils first Bitcoin mining chip

As announced in early February, Intel has developed a chip dedicated solely to Bitcoin mining. baptized “Bonanza Mine” (BMZ1)As a circuit dedicated to only one task, this ASIC (application specific integrated) should allow Bitcoin miners to consume less energy.

Before the announcement, the semiconductor giant said its in-house chip “1000x better performance per watt than mainstream GPUs.” carved at 7nm, the chip is intended to be part of a series of 300 ASICs. This mining infrastructure, consisting of 300 BMZ1, 3,600 watts of electrical power. This platform will provide a hash rate of 40 terahash per second (TH/s), which is the power of the Bitcoin network.

Intel is already preparing a second-generation Bitcoin mining chip

This is less than the most powerful platforms in the industry, for example Latest mining infrastructure developed by Bitmain. Bitmain’s latest industry-leading mining station only needs 3,010 watts to deliver 140 TH/s. MicroBT’s WhatsMiner M30S produces up to 112 TH/s.

Intel’s mining chip is noticeably lagging behind the competition. Aware of the shortcomings of its solution, the company is currently working on it. A second iteration of Bonanza Mine, BMZ2. Mining firm Bitcoin GRIID Infrastructures, which has 3 farms in the United States, has just signed an agreement with Intel on this issue.

As part of this agreement, GRIID will be the first mining farm to leverage ASICS BZM2 chips. The agreement provides The first units will be delivered in 2022. The mining company is already taking over most of Intel’s chip production. Among other companies that have announced their intention to exploit BMZ2 chips, we find Jack Dorsey’s venture Block.
