The story is not necessarily new to the older anime community. In the mid-2000s, rumors surfaced on chat forums about an amateur video recording during an event panel that revealed the alleged series in the American version of Sailor Moon.

It all starts in the early 90s, when manga author Naoko Takeuchi produced the Sailor Moon manga, revolutionizing the mahou shoujo genre.
During the same period, series of superheroes who faced the monster of the day, known as “super sentai”, were very popular, especially among boys. However, none of these works were popular among the female audience.
Due to its size, it made sense to release it in Japan, even though it wasn’t easy to attract an audience, even though the series is very prestigious today. In the West, there was a different standard of content to be consumed, the series had an aesthetic standard and followed the successes of the time such as Dragon’s Lair and He-Man.
However, the success that Saban acquired with the adaptation of scenes from the sentai Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger, when creating the famous Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, opened an opportunity for Toei to try to replicate the success with some of its series.
Theoretically, the idea seemed perfect, if the new Sailor Moon project was a success in the North American market, it was a door to reuse its Japanese animes and expand its toy lines and make profits grow.
As the ideas seemed good, Saban approached some companies to produce the pilot for the eventual series, titled by fans as “Saban Moon”.
Little was known about this series, other than the fact that it ended up not being produced, only the filmed version of the clip at Anime Expo, nothing was made public officially.
