Batman from the animated series returns in ‘The Adventure Continues’

The much-memorable and much-loved cartoon “Batman: The Animated Series” is back! This time, of course, to deliver fans a new story set in the fan-favorite universe. As part of DC’s January solicitations, the publisher ended up revealing “Batman: The Adventure Continues – Season 3,” a new tale from the DCAU.

There were few fans of the Dark Knight in the 1990s who didn’t know the hero’s popular cartoon: “Batman: The Animated Series” was a production created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski and developed by Timm together with Paul Dini and Mitch Brian.

This was not only the first Batman cartoon in decades, but it was also the first entry in the DC Animated Universe. “Batman: The Animated Series” was widely acclaimed for its rich art, bold storytelling, and performances excellent performances by actors such as Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill.

Although the animated series ended in the 1990s, fans finally had the unique chance to see him return in comic book form in “Batman: The Adventure Continues.” This came about through writers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, who together were responsible for the work done on the original work.

Now, after two volumes, the duo is back, with artist Jordan Gibson joining them for another of their romps through the iconic world of DC. While it’s great news that after decades fans will have the chance to revisit the DCAU, it’s likely that this will be the last time they’ll be able to do so.

The latest edition of “DC Connect” ends up referring very specifically to “Batman: The Adventure Continues – Season 3” as the third, but also, to the sadness of many fans, also as the last season.

It’s certainly possible that the DC Animated Universe could be revisited in some other form or fashion in the future. However, until then, it seems that the upcoming seven-issue miniseries will be the last time readers will get a glimpse of new stories set in the world of “Batman: The Animated Series.”

Finally, fans will be able to have such an opportunity on January 10, 2023, when its release date is scheduled.
