Google is gearing up to launch a new smartwatch in just a few weeks, the Pixel Watch 3. Among the potential improvements, one stands out: Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, which has been a staple on Apple Watches for years.
The latest FCC filings reveal that four new Google “wireless devices” have passed regulatory approval. These devices, which carry model numbers GBDU9, GRY0E, GG3HH and GGE4JThere may be variants of Pixel Watch 3. According to the listings, All four models appear to support UWB technology.
What is the use of UWB technology in the watch?
For those who don’t know, UWB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless communication protocol. Its integration could open up a world of possibilities for Pixel Watch users. Imagine if you could Open your car door with a flick of your wrist Or Locate other devices with UWB technology with centimeter precisionThese are just a few examples of what Apple Watch users can already do.
But UWB isn’t the only interesting new development. Documents filed with the FCC show: Pixel Watch 3 may support 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-FiThere are even hints of compatibility with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), which is something that’s not uncommon in the smartwatch world, potentially offering faster and more reliable connections.
Google also looks set to double down on size options this year. Rumors point to 41mm and 45mm models; the larger model is likely to be called the Pixel Watch 3 XL. Unless there are any dramatic changes to the exterior, the inside could benefit from a serious boost. The 45mm model’s larger battery could address one of the biggest criticisms of previous Pixel Watches: battery life. Paired with Android 14-based Wear OS 5, users should be able to enjoy longer usage times between charges.
As for the price, there are early speculations The Wi-Fi model costs $349, while the LTE model costs $399. Now it remains to see what other new features Google has in store for us in its watches.
