Nest Hub Max: Soon you won’t have to say “OK Google” to talk to Assistant

Google’s Nest Hub may be getting a new feature that will make interactions smoother, using eye contact instead of the traditional “Ok Google” wake word to activate the Assistant. Functionality noticed in the Google app in the beta channel, version 13.14, works as the name suggests, just look at the device and start speaking a command. The process therefore differs from Google’s recent updates to the Assistant, which allow certain commands to be spoken without a wake word.

This feature will obviously need a camera to detect your face. So it looks like it will be compatible with the Google Nest Hub Max smart display, but it won’t be compatible with the classic Nest Hub or even simple connected speakers. The emergence of such an option could encourage Google to launch more connected devices equipped with cameras, to the dismay of privacy advocates.

When will the new feature be available on Google Nest Hub Max?

For now, it’s unclear when Google plans to make this feature publicly available. The American giant may decide to offer it on the occasion of the annual Google I/O conference to be held next month.. During this conference, Google may also lift the curtain on its next Pixel 6a, its affordable smartphone for 2022.

For those who immediately realize that this new option may lead to discussions regarding users’ privacy, because the camera Your Google Nest Hub Max will need to constantly monitor your face, Google has thought of everything. In the APK, 9to5Google also discovered hints that suggest: video is processed locally without sending footage to the cloud. Therefore, users will not have to fear seeing their videos and personal data leaked to the Web.
