On May 11, the Google Developers Conference started. The multi-day conference kicked off with a traditional keynote hosted by the firm’s boss, Sundar Pichai. Many new features were announced in this keynote. Of course the next version of Android, but also hardware products. Pixel 6a appeared, of course. Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Tab, Pixel 7, and 7 Pro were all shown off. Moreover, it is the Pixel Watch that everyone is waiting for in 2021. It will finally arrive in 2022.
We know very little about this watch other than its round design and compatibility with the watch. Use OS 3. Indeed, like every self-respecting Pixel product, the smartwatch will include the latest version of the operating system that Google offers for its segment. This is Wear OS. Building on the strong legacy of Fitbit (part of the group), Pixel Watch will be compatible Android8.0 (or more) and that’s it (no iOS). Wallet, Home, Maps, and even Assistant will be installed locally.
Google is developing a special application for Pixel Watch
For the rest, you have to look at the rumors to find out a little more. We have known for only a few days that independence can be very short (one day) and charging can be quite slow. Additionally, we will also find Exynos 9110 inside Samsung’s SoC. Today, thanks to 9to5Google (them again), we learn that the watch is supposed to work with a special app called the Pixel Watch App. It’s pretty simple.
This application should allow you to configure and update the watch, while also installing applications and connecting to other applications. For example, to analyze sports sessions, we consider the Fitbit system, which also includes a premium component with fitness programs. 9to5Google draws a parallel between this app and the one used by Pixel Buds.
Pixel Watch will unlock your Android smartphone
The existence of this application, which will complement the Wear OS application, was discovered by our colleagues by examining the beta version of the Google Play Services application, which the American company published in the Play Store this week. They discovered mention of a new function expected with the Pixel Watch: unlock with a trusted device (a bit like Apple Watch with iPhone). To use this function with Pixel Watch, the user is invited to open the Pixel Watch application on his smartphone. This confirms that this feature will be coming very soon, even if it is possible that Google will delay, give up, and change its mind by then.
