Everything we know about the new Strand Subclasses in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Destiny 2 Strand Subclasses for Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans comes with Lightfall, bringing plenty of search shells, exploding Tangles, and high-mobility grapples. Each of the three Strand Subclasses for Destiny 2 – Broodweaver, Threadrunner, and Berserker – are very different from each other, focusing on different aspects of Strand, from movement to weaving objects to implementing new verbs and keywords. We don’t know all about Strand yet as Lightfall hasn’t been released yet, but Bungie has revealed a lot of details so far. Here’s everything we know about the three Destiny 2 Strand Subclasses.

Destiny 2 Strand explained

Strand comes with the latest Subclass and Destiny 2 Lightfall to be added to the game. Guardians will learn and begin to master this new psychic power throughout the Lightfall campaign, but Bungie shared the core Strand abilities that every Destiny Class can use – we also got to chat with two key designers from Bungie for a Destiny 2. Compatible with all existing Destiny 2 core Subclasses, Strand brings its own unique set of ‘verbs’ – buffs, debuffs, and other effects – that are key to many abilities. These Strand verbs are:

• Suspend: Enemies affected by Suspend are lifted off the ground and immobilized, preventing them from doing just about anything (players suspended in PvP can still use weapons and slow movements).
• to solve: Impressing an enemy with Unravel and then attacking them further causes the whips of Strand threads to explode and hit other targets, dissolving them as well.
• Presenter: Enemies under Sever’s influence deal reduced damage.
• tangle: Defeating any enemy affected by one of the above Strand debuffs creates a Strand orb known as a Tangle. Mess can be hit or thrown, causing them to explode and deal damage to nearby enemies.
• Woven Mail: A buff that provides extra damage resistance with a protective Strand mesh. In PvP, Woven Mail’s damage reduction only applies to body damage – headshots and melee attacks deal full damage.

Hunters, Mages, and Titans also gain access to three Strand Grenade Abilities (Threadling Grenades, Shackle Grenades, and grapple) and a set of Trailers to align with your Aspects and further increase your Strand power. While not all Fragments have appeared yet, some of its effects include creating Threads with finishers, gaining Woven Armor by getting an Orb of Power, and activating your Grenade Ability to reload your weapon and briefly increase effectiveness in the air.

Destiny 2 Strand Warlock Subclass – Broodweaver

In short, Destiny 2 Strand Warlock Subclass Broodweaver is all about creating and weaving tiny Threadling minions to seek out and destroy enemies. Broodweaver Warlocks have special Threads that return to them and then become ‘perched’, wandering around in search of a target. Broodweaver abilities and Elements include:

• Signature Ability – Pinstorm: Create and launch a rain of Strand nails that explode and turn into a search for Threadlings.
• Melee Ability – Stealth Needle: Fire a tracking projectile that deals high damage and Dissolves the target. This ability has three charges.
• Element 1 – Weaver’s Call: Making a Rift creates three Teeth eggs that turn into Teeth when they hit a surface. Perched Spinach Offspring are also turned into eggs.
• Direction 2 – Call of Mindspun: Improves grenade abilities; Threadling Grenades can be consumed to create a full set of perched Threadlings, Shackle Grenades can be consumed to gain a buff that causes you to generate a Suspend burst on each kill, and performing a grapple melee will allow you to spawn three Threadling eggs from the target.

Destiny 2 Strand Hunter Subclass – Threadrunner

Dubbed the Threadrunner for Hunters, the Destiny 2 Strand Subclass enables them to become masters of movement, with powers revolving around the mighty Strand grapple and aerial combat. As a Threarunner Hunter you will have the following abilities and Aspects:

• Signature Ability – Silkstrike: Construct a Strand-powered rope dart that can use light and heavy attacks to target lone enemies or clusters of enemies. Both attacks can be used while airborne, and Threadrunner Hunters can use their Grapples much more often.
• Melee Ability – Serrated Nail: Throw a string dart that bounces between enemies, dealing damage and inflicting Sever. The dart then returns to the Hunter, granting Melee Ability energy for each enemy hit, but catching the dart fully provides additional energy.
• Element 1 – Trap Strike: Slam from the air to the ground and Suspend all nearby enemies.
• Element 2 – Widow’s Silk: Earn an additional Grenade Skill fee. Threadrunner’s grapple also creates a permanent Mess that any player can use. Struggling with it also fully restores the Grenade energy, allowing these Hunters to form grappling entanglement chains.

Destiny 2 Strand Titan Subclass – Berserker

Berserker is the Strand Subclass for Titans in Destiny 2. Combines survivability in the form of a Woven Mail buff with fast, brutal melee attacks to apply other Strand debuffs and devastate enemies. Ferocious Titans gain the following abilities and Aspects:

• Signature Ability – Bladefury: Frenzied Blade is empowered with increased attack speed for each hit (speed maxes out at three hits), and each hit also charges a heavy attack where Titan fires a pair of seeker Strand shells that Suspend enemies and deal damage to them.
• Melee Ability – Crazy Blade: Use Strand arm blades to dash forward and slice enemies by applying Sever. This ability has three charges.
• Aspect 1 – Into the Struggle: Destroying a Tangle grants Woven Armor to Titan and nearby allies. Melee Ability regen is also faster while Woven Mail is active.
• Element 2 – Drengr’s Whip: Building a Barricade initiates a surge of Strand energy that Suspends enemies hit.
