Destiny 2 Lightfall trailer

The Destiny 2 Lightfall showcase in August 2022 gave us our first look at what the new expansion is about. The latest Destiny 2 Lightfall trailer released during The Game Awards gave us the clearest look at the game yet – including more information on the new story campaign, Neptune destination and Strand subclass.

Destiny 2 Lightfall gameplay changes

There are many new additions coming as part of this expansion – including a new campaign, location and subclass – but Bungie is also bringing some major changes to Destiny 2 Lightfall gameplay. These are largely designed to improve quality of life and make the onboarding slightly better for new players.

These updates include the introduction of a Guardian Ranks system designed to help new players understand how to play Destiny 2 and guide them through the vast amount of content available. Guardian Ranks will also reward the appreciation of helpful Guardians if you are willing to show a newbie some of the more challenging events, dungeons or raids.

Lightfall will also include the In-Game Loadout and Mod Manager, as well as new ways to manage equipment. While we haven’t tried these new systems ourselves yet, Bungie likens them to the armor customization screen. The developer says he wants to make it easy to manage and experiment with your equipment and mods. You’ll also be able to save certain character builds for the first time in the Destiny series and easily switch between them before loading them into different activity types.

An LFG Fireteam Finder is also in development to help players find Fireteams that have completed certain activities. This feature will not launch with Lightfall, but will instead arrive at a later date in 2023.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Subclass revealed

A new Destiny 2 Lightfall subclass is coming as part of this expansion. Strand will be available for each of the three main Destiny 2 Classes and will be a highlight of the upcoming release.

Bungie has confirmed that the Strand subclass names are as follows:

  • Wizard: Broodweaver
  • Hunter: Threadrunner
  • Titan: Warrior

Strand is unique in that it is a power that cannot be bestowed and discovered while playing in the new Destiny 2 Lightfall campaign – this is the first time he has used it in the Destiny universe. While derived from the dark, Strand seems to make use of something called the “Weave”, an abstract psychic dimension that connects all minds, but Strand’s power allows the Guardians to pull psychic strings and turn it into a useful tool for movement. and destruction.

No details on any abilities yet, but we do know that all Strand Subclasses can access the hook-like ability that allows you to swing (even hitchhike from your teammates) on the battlefield. Each Subclass can weave the Stand in unique ways: Warlocks can craft sentient creatures and Strand missiles, Titans can wield massive claws for deadly spinning attacks, and Hunters have a flashy string dart for acrobatic attacks. Strand will also follow the Subclass 3.0 format with Features and Parts for customizable builds.

Destiny 2 Lightfall campaign details

Destiny 2 Lightfall will introduce a new campaign that builds on the success of The Witch Queen’s refined format. The Destiny 2 Lightfall story, besides being crucial for learning about The Strand, seems crucial as new characters and major players clash at the very beginning of the end with the invasion of Witness in all its might. The trailers revealed many out-of-context story moments, leaving us with more Destiny 2 Lightfall theory than we knew what to do with.

The Destiny 2 Lightfall campaign will also have a Legendary difficulty option, just like the The Witch Queen campaign. If you’re up for the challenge, the Legendary campaign offers higher level rewards, allowing you to prepare for the Raid faster.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Neptune

Destiny 2 Lightfall introduces a whole new area for us to explore: Neomuna, the capital city of Neptune. This is an advanced, neon-lit city built by an alternate version of humanity that has existed since the Collapse, although no one knew about it until now. This secrecy has apparently allowed this variant of humanity to flourish, but another fight to prevent Collapse has come into their domain with Lightfall. The Guardians will form an alliance with the city’s super soldier defenders, known as the Cloud Walkers, to protect the besieged city from new enemies.

Destiny 2 Lightfall enemies

Introducing a new pack of Destiny 2 Lightfall enemies as part of the expansion. Between the campaign and a new pack of activities, you’ll encounter Calus’ ruthless Shadow Legion, a new Cabal army powered by the power of Witness and Pyramid technology. These enemies have a new look and carry suppression devices that can remove some of your Super and abilities.

Fighting alongside the Shadow Legion are new Tormentor enemies. These boss-like Pyramid enemies are massive and ready to cause you real trouble in Neomuna – with a series of ranged and melee attacks, one of which uses a massive scythe, expect the Tormentors to be a serious challenge.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Raid and Dungeons

There’s a new Destiny 2 Lightfall Raid. This endgame event hasn’t been properly detailed by Bungie yet, but we expect it to come out a week after the expansion – Vow the Disciple was released for The Witch Queen anyway.

As for what we should expect to find in Lightfall Raid, a whitepaper on the Bungie website says “an unforgettable presence has been detected in it.” [REDACTED]” – nice and vague. As for the loot, we know that Raid’s Adept weapons can return with enhanced perks.

Looking beyond Lightfall, Destiny 2 will also receive two more Dungeons, one in Season 21 and one in Season 23. We obviously don’t know anything about these yet, but you’ll need the Destiny 2 Lightfall Annual Pass to access them. This leaves a mysterious endgame event for Season 22, which will likely be some sort of replayed Raid, but who knows if this will be a classic Raid from Destiny 1 or a Destiny 2 Raid currently in the content vault.

Destiny 2 Lightfall is one of the most anticipated upcoming PS5 games, upcoming Xbox Series X gamesand upcoming PC games of the year. For more information on expansion, exclusive Destiny 2 Lightfall interview with game director Joe Blackburn and assistant GM Dan McAuliffe.
