Marvel’s Midnight Suns interview

During our visit to Firaxis, we once again sat down with Solomon, who was joined by art director Dennis Moellers, to talk about how Marvel’s Midnight Suns developed and the work that went into it. There seems to be a surprisingly obvious Japanese influence behind the game, from the relationship systems of JRPGs to the development of modern anime. Overview of Marvel’s Midnight Suns

As we sat down to play the game, we learned that Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a faster and darker tactical RPG from the team behind XCOM.

But for a quick overview: Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG where you choose three of the available Marvel heroes to accompany you on your missions. Superhero abilities are represented by cards, allowing you to choose which ability cards to use, allowing you to tailor your team’s skills as you see fit.

“In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, you don’t learn how to fight or gradually get stronger – you and your hero friends are already legends and you must combine everything in your arsenal to stop Lilith,” explains Solomon. “Cards allow us to really do anything while designing a combat system that makes every hero feel, look and play differently, providing a new and refreshing way to approach tactics.”

When you’re not on the battlefield, you’ll hang out in the Abbey, a hub area where you can interact with your hero team. “I think the equally powerful fantasy for Marvel fans is not just fighting, but actually how the heroes live with each other,” Solomon told GamesRadar+. “We have a large roster of heroes, 12 Marvel heroes in addition to the Hunter, and you have to choose between whom to focus on building relationships with.”

These relationships can be developed through dialogue, spending time together and giving gifts, but unfortunately not with love. “With all these heroes from the Avengers, X-Men, Runaways, and more—it’s a particularly interesting and diverse group of heroes who don’t always agree,” explained Chad Rocco, the narrative director. Firaxis Games. “As Hunter, it’s up to you to bridge the gap between the old guards in the neighborhood and the new kids.”

How long is Marvel’s Midnight Suns?

According to Firaxis, regular gameplay of Marvel’s Midnight Suns can take around 60 hours, and the studio is promising replayability that extends far beyond that. You can use different heroes and level up, combine randomly generated cards and follow different versions of the Hunter by changing some story decisions.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns story
