Apple: According to this benchmark, the M2 Max chip will be more powerful than expected

We certainly don’t have a launch window for Apple’s M2 Max chip, but that hasn’t stopped it from being seriously talked about for the past few days. Better still, each new look promises better performance than the last. As a matter of fact, last August, Ming-Chi Kuo warned his readers that the processor will only offer a small performance boost compared to the M1 Max.

Then, last week, those announcements seem to be confirmed with the release of the first benchmark, which revealed 1853 points in single-core and 13,855 points in multi-core. Note that the M1 Max chip scores 1755 in single-core and 12,334 in multi-core. So the difference doesn’t really matter, at least not as much as one might expect. But to put us at ease a bit, a new criterion comes in.

Finally, the M2 Max chip won’t disappoint

As a matter of fact, the new scores on Geekbench are already more promising. Thus, the M2 Max chip achieved 2,027 points in single-core and 14,888 points in multi-core. The gap is therefore a little more pronounced and this will certainly help justify the launch of their new Mac. However, keep in mind that the processor frequency in this benchmark is higher than the previous (3.54 GHz vs. 3.68 GHz), which may explain these higher results.

Other interesting information, the benchmark shows that the chip was tested on a “Mac 14.6” with 96GB of memory and running macOS Ventura 13.2. Therefore, we can expect it to power 14-inch and 116-inch Macs. As for the release date, we’re still in the dark after Apple delayed its 2023 announcement without giving further details.
