Daydream: headsets, controllers and apps dedicated to virtual reality on Android

The Google I/O 2016 conference continues on Moyens I/O, and the developer hasn’t failed to secure its presence in one of 2016’s biggest markets: virtual reality. For this, he put the small plates inside the big ones.

With the Daydream program, it will take the first step into the new high-tech sector. While not forgetting Google Cardboard, which has allowed many users to demonstrate the potential of 360° and virtual reality, it will take the concept much further.

And for this, he created a model of virtual reality headsets as comfortable as possible, which manufacturers can directly take advantage of to create their own models. But on top of that, he created a gesture-recognition joystick that can be easily used with these experiences, allowing you to interact with these new universes easily.

Also, among all the improvements made to Android N, it will benefit from a special “Virtual Reality” mode that will allow hardware resources to be allocated to this particular use. Google has also created a guide to help manufacturers make their future smartphones compatible with virtual reality.

Play apps are also moving into virtual reality, and the Photos gallery will soon be compatible with 360° photos. A “Daydream” hub will provide easy access to all its apps dedicated to this app.

But currently only a dozen manufacturers are part of the project. Unfortunately, its older models don’t seem to be part of this effort, and in the future it will be necessary to look from manufacturer to manufacturer as to whether their devices will be made compatible or meet this program’s guidelines.
