These Pokemon Go Mega Aggron Raid counters will help you catch a powerful Steel-type Mega Pokemon as a tank option and master their move sets. And while best known for his defensive stats, Mega Aggron can still pack a punch if needed. During the Pokemon Go Test Your Mettle event and a few days later (September 16-27), Mega Aggron will appear in Mega Raids in your region.
Trainers may have a hard time knocking out Mega Aggron, but that’s what this guide is for. Here’s everything top counters and trainers need to know about this 3rd Gen Pokemon.
Pokemon Go Mega Agron Raid Counters
Mega Aggron is the only Mega Pokemon that has truly lost a spell from its normal form. Normal Aggron is a Steel and Rock type, while Mega Evolution is a pure Steel type.
This makes Mega Agron weak against Fire, Combat, and Ground-type attacks. While Fire-type Pokemon is an option against Mega Aggron, we really recommend going for either the Fight or the Ground type for this battle. And that’s because of the moves that Mega Aggron is known for, which we’ll cover in the section below.
When it comes to Fighting and Ground Pokemon, Fighting types are really the best team to use. Mega Lopunny is the only Fighting type Mega Evolution so it’s a viable option, but with the number of powerful Fighting types in Pokemon Go there won’t be trainers who don’t put it into battle. The power boost from Mega Lopunny’s Mega Evolution passive is well worth it.
Lucario, Machamp, Conkeldurr, and Terrakion are excellent choices to use in a fully Fighting team.
Trainers looking to use ground types may have a similar problem with the lack of a valid Mega Evolution. Mega Steelix is the only Ground-type Mega Evolution currently available and doesn’t have the best move set. Like Mega Lopunny, Steelix grants a power boost to Ground types if used on your team.
Other Ground types such as Garchomp, Excadrill, Landorus, and Groudon must be used in your team.
Here are a few options for Mega Aggron counters in Pokemon Go.
| pokemon | it moves |
|---|---|
| Mega Lopunny | Low Kick and Focus Burst |
| Mega Steelix | Thunder Fang and Earthquake |
| Lucario | Counter and Aura Orb |
| conkeldurr | Counter and Dynamic Punch |
| Garchomp | Mud Shot and Earth Power |
| Excadrill | Mud-Slap and Earthquake |
| landorus | Mud Shot and Earth Power |
| Machamp | Counter and Dynamic Punch |
| Groudon | Mud Shot and Earthquake |
| Terrakion | Double Kick and Holy Sword |
Pokemon Go Mega Agron Moves
Mega Aggron has a wide variety of moves that she uses in Pokemon Go. Dragon Tail is a Dragon-type Quick Attack that deals super-effective damage to Garchomp, while Smack Down, a Rock-type move, deals a lot of damage to most Fire types.
Being a steel-type attack, Iron Tail doesn’t give many of the Pokemon problems above, but does have STAB when Mega Aggron uses it, so be careful.
As for his Charged Attacks, Thunder (Electric) won’t give many problems to the above Pokemon, while Heavy Slam will be neutral towards most of the counters. But Stoned Edge and Rock Tomb will spell doom for Fire types, so we recommend avoiding them at all costs.
Lucario is actually the best Pokemon to use against Mega Aggron. Resists all Pokemon’s moves except Thunder. Excadrill resists all attacks from Mega Aggron, so definitely use one of these if you’re building a team.
Here are all the moves Mega Aggron can use in Pokemon Go
| Fast attack | Charged Attack |
|---|---|
| dragon tail | Thunder |
| iron tail | Stone Edge |
| Smack down | Heavy Slam |
| rock tomb |
