LG registers ROLED name for its future rollable TVs

LG Display seems to really believe in the 65″ rollable screen prototype presented at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. The device consists of a box on which the OLED panel wrapped around can rise to a variable height. So the screen can be opened fully or reduced to fit the letterbox format (and two black band can be removed) or it can be reduced to a much thinner strip where notifications are displayed.

The mark belongs to “classification 09” and “OLED and 3D displays, display devices, rollable displays, rollable TVs, smartphones, computers and televisionsSuffice it to say that this type of technology can be found in a multitude of formats.

Let’s Go Digital suggests that the first TV for commercial use could be presented at IFA 2018 in Berlin. However, this may not apply to every budget. LG already offers several 65-inch LG Signature OLED displays – razor-thin TVs that attach to the wall with a magnetic mount. They are relatively flexible, but not as flexible as required for ROLED technology.

Due to the lack of techniques to reduce costs, these displays are already overpriced: around 8000 Euros for 65″. Therefore, we can expect its successors to reach heights in terms of price as well.
