Google and LG introduced the world-record OLED screen with a resolution of 1443 DPI!

At Display Week 2018, organized by SID (Society for Information Display), Google just announced the results of a “secret project” it talked about in 2017. Mountain View company presented OLED display in partnership with LG”has the world’s highest resolution” is dedicated to virtual reality headsets. This greatly improves the display.

Google and LG designed a very high resolution display for VR headsets

This 18 MP display is a pretty crazy 1443 DPI resolution, for its 4.3 inch size and 4800 x 3840 pixel definition. For comparison, the resolution is about 3 times higher than HTC Vive. Another important factor is the 120 Hz refresh rate. The user experience becomes much better with a wider field of view of 120 x 96 degrees, which is slightly closer to human capacities.

Of course, it takes power, a lot of power to work. Combining this quality with this refresh rate is not trivial. Planned to use Google to make everything a little less greedy foveal screen. This technology consists of following the user’s gaze to show maximum quality only there. Other surrounding areas are then displayed with less detail, even blurred on opposite sides.

However, we shouldn’t expect to see such a display in a product aimed at the general public market in the near future, Google told 9to5Google. But in the future, this type of display could allow virtual reality to take a real step forward.
