The Galaxy Note 9 brings with it countless upgrades, but the biggest one isn’t its 4,000mAh battery, but the new connected S Pen. Comes with built-in Bluetooth and super capacitor. This allows the S Pen to act as a wireless remote in addition to the traditional pen it still remains.
The button on the S Pen can now be used to open the camera app and take photos, browse gallery or web pages in Google Chrome, play or pause music, and much more. While S Pen support is currently mostly limited to Samsung apps and functions, third-party developers may soon integrate the same support into their apps.
Ways to Customize the S Pen
There are plenty of opportunities for the S Pen to expand beyond its current scope of remote control capabilities, but until then, let’s take a look at how you can customize the countless S Pen features:
1. Press and Hold to Open Apps
If you’ve ever heard of the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen, you’d know it. Long pressing the S Pen button will open the camera app by default. However, you can customize the function or app that should be turned on when you hold down the button, simply by going to . ‘Advanced Features > S Pen > S Pen Remote Control’ In the settings menu.
then you need Tap on ‘Hold Pen Button’ here to see a list of features and apps you can assign to this action. I usually listen to music and screen-write web pages at the same time, so I assigned Google Play Music to launch by holding down the S Pen button. This is one of my favorite features of the new S Pen.
2. Customize App Actions
Also, when you scroll down the ‘S Pen Remote’ settings page, you will notice that you can customize the actions you can perform for each compatible app such as Camera, Chrome, Gallery and Powerpoint among others. You can do it too Choose or disable what happens when the S Pen button is pressed once or twice from working in a particular application.

Take the camera app, for example, where you have the ability to click on photos with ‘one tap’ and by default switch between the front or rear camera with a double press. However, if you want to open the camera and record video using the S Pen, you can do so here: assign the task to an ‘odd’ or ‘double’ press action.
You’ll find that the same is true for all other supported apps, but the number of actions is quite limited. Google Chrome is the only app that supports more than two actions other than the camera. open SDK to introduce newer app actions (with new supported apps).
3. Unlock Phone with S Pen
The ability to unlock your Galaxy Note 9 with the new S Pen is another nifty feature made possible this time around. now you can press S Pen button once when screen is locked (and the S Pen is already outside its small cavity and is connected to the Galaxy Note 9 to unlock the device.

This feature is not enabled by default, so Go to the S Pen menu under Settings and tap ‘Unlock with S Pen remote’ to make it work.
PS: When the stylus is removed from the device after the screen is locked, the S Pen remote cannot be used to unlock the device as it is no longer connected.
4. Pop-Up Notes Anywhere
We know that removing the S Pen while the Galaxy Note 9’s screen is locked opens the note and now lets you write in the signature color of your S Pen. However, if you ever I want to create a note instantly then you’ll have to jump into the Air Command floating menu or app drawer to access the Notes app – no, no.

The S Pen is convenience and comes with countless shortcuts. One of them is the ability to instantly open a new popup note without the aforementioned effort. all you have to do Double-tap anywhere on the Galaxy Note 9 screen While holding down the S Pen button. Here, the note pops up above any app you open!
5. Ring the Alarm
One of the most necessary S Pen features, called the alarm, has been available to Galaxy Note users for a while. designed for Alert users when they forget to attach the handy dandy pen back to the void turn on the device and start zooming away.

You can go to the Alarm option below. ‘Advanced features > S Pen’ Settings menu to activate this feature, which I suggest you do right after installing the device.
6. Air Command Shortcuts
Last but not least, you can still customize ‘Air Command’ shortcuts to add or remove apps and features Like Smart Select, Screen Write, Live Message, Translate and more in the floating menu that appears when the S Pen (also customizable) is removed from its cavity on the Galaxy Note 9.
