Did you know about Dash buttons? These devices, marketed by Amazon, are a type of WiFi doorbell branded with a product’s logo. Press the button and presto! the product in question is instantly ordered on Amazon. With the Dash Button, it’s possible to put a button next to toothbrushes, for example, to order a new tube of toothpaste as soon as it’s empty without much thought. The target of these connected objects was everyday consumer goods that users were afraid to go to stores and buy.
Amazon announces the end of Dash Buttons
Dash Buttons were released in 2015: back then, the number of linked objects was much less than today. Amazon Echo speakers have just been launched and their international success has yet to be proven. The rather original idea of Dash Buttons was much more relevant, allowing purchases to be made without going through your computer. However, over the years, Dash Buttons have “benefited” from the success of the company’s connected speakers – which allows purchases to be made by voice – and the existence of virtual Dash Buttons (without a physical button) with which we can interact. on computers, smartphones, tablets as well as Echo connected speakers.
Still, it’s surprising that these were deleted when Amazon launched them in France less than a year ago. Those who already have Dash Buttons can still use them: “Existing Dash Button customers will be able to continue using Dash Button devices. We look forward to continuing to support our customers’ needs, including growing our Dash Refresh product line and expanding the availability of Virtual Dash Buttons.”describes the firm in a press release.
