Although iPhones recently supported the digital-format ID card in the Maps app, this was only for US documents. Thanks to the France Identity app, the government will finally catch up. iOS 16 will enable the ID card to be read thanks to the iPhone’s NFC chip.

It is not known for now whether the beta of the France Identity app will be available for all users on iOS or if it will have a limited number of places like on Android.
