Official Amazon Echo and Echo Dot (2019): better sound, LED display and same price

Amazon has launched a number of new products, including Echo Frames, $180 connected glasses, and Echo Buds, which are serious rivals to AirPods with active noise reduction. However, the internet retail giant has also renewed its doors to the Alexa voice assistant ecosystem.

Amazon Echo 3rd Gen (2019): Better Sound and Stereo Pairing

Thus, the company introduced the third generation of Echo speakers. The Amazon Echo 3rd generation takes a more refined design with rounded edges and new fabric colors: blue grey, heather gray and sand. Amazon has equipped them with new premium speakers for better sound quality.

The system is still Dolby compatible (like the previous generation) and Amazon promises 360° immersive audio “with clear vocals and dynamic bass”. It is also possible to pair the speaker with a second 3rd gen speaker or Amazon Echo Plus 2nd gen for stereo sound.

Still, Amazon states that it only works for the moment to play music from the local network, and in no case via bluetooth or auxiliary connection with audio jack. The speaker is available at a price of 99 €.

Amazon Echo Dot with Clock: the tiny speaker for your bedroom

Another innovation: the 3rd generation Echo Dot speaker, which now comes in two versions, the classic € 59.99 and the “clock” € 69.99. The design of the latter is the same as the standard version. However, a white segment LED display is integrated behind the fabric of the device. This display clock allows you to see the outside temperature or the timer.

Amazon is targeting this new “Dot” for nightstands. The brightness of the screen adapts to the ambient light so that it doesn’t become distracting, for example when you turn the light off. It is also possible to snooze an alarm by tapping on it.

Like the new Amazon Echo, it has new colors (spirit gray, plum, and sand), and it’s possible to pair this speaker with another speaker to enjoy its stereo. The new Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot will be available in France from October 16, 2019.
