On December 4, Amazon posted on its Indian website “Portable Smart Speaker Edition with Echo Input”, a connected speaker equipped with an integrated rechargeable battery. Other speakers in the series, such as the Echo Dot or Sub, do not have a rechargeable battery. The online sales giant promises 10 hours of listening time and 11 hours of standby time Thanks to its 4,800 mAh battery. Also, Amazon ensures that the device’s hardware is similar to the Echo Input, the cylinder that lets you add Alexa to any speaker.
To work, Alexa obviously WiFi connection needed. To communicate with the Assistant, therefore, you will have to be limited to the periphery of your network. Unfortunately, it’s not really possible to connect the speaker to a 4G mobile network. Going to the park with Alexa or going for a walk with the assistant in your bag is therefore not an option.
Again, “You want to be able to take Alexa with you from room to room in your home”, Amazon promises. As long as your WiFi network is large enough, you can also use the assistant while you barbecue by the pool or in your garden. “Portability has become one of the most requested features in India” Miriam Daniel, vice president of Amazon Alexa devices, explains to our colleagues at TechCrunch.
