This platform was also accompanied by Google Daydream View, a virtual reality headset equipped with a motion-sensing remote control. One of these main advantages was its advantageous price (€69 in Europe), far from tenors of the genre like the PS VR next to the PS4 or the HTC Vive on the PC.
That said, prices have plummeted for standalone VR headsets or PC/consoles, like the excellent Oculus Go that was priced at €219 at launch. In fact, the interest and appeal of VR headsets for smartphones (less efficient and immersive than standalone or PC models) has rapidly waned.
As a result, Google abandoned Daydream in 2019. In the same year, the manufacturer also stopped working on Google Cardboard development kits, open source It can be used by developers who want to continue creating VR experiences for Cardboard.
