You want to find the best Lost Arc build, but where to start? Building a proper Lost Ark build requires much more than just finding a class and choosing your attacks. You’ll also need to assign Skill Points, unlock Skill Trees, find Engravings and Cards, and equip the right armor.
If that sounds a bit complicated, here’s a complete Lost Ark building guide to help you get the most out of your Paladin, Sorceress or Shadowhunter.
How to create a character build in Lost Ark
Before we get into the details, let’s start with an overview of all the steps required to create your Lost Ark character:
- Choose your Class and Advanced Class
- Choose skills and assign Skill Points
- Unlock Skill Trees and equip Runes
- Find the best weapons and armor and get good stats
- Upgrade your Engravings and Card Decals
Start your Lost Arc build with Classes and Skills
Want to create a Lost Arc build that you will absolutely love? Step one: Choose a Class you like. Before making a final choice, consider the overall playstyle, weapon type, attack type (front attacks or rear attacks), positioning (melee or ranged), and combat role (full DPS or Support). If you need help choosing which Lost Ark class to choose, we can help?
After choosing a Class and starting your journey in Luterra, the next step is to equip your first Skills. There are eight Skill slots in total. Drag and drop what you want to try and remember: You can reassign Skills and Skill Points at any time, so feel free to experiment before you think about the rest of your build.
When assigning Skills, remember that there are different ways to trigger them (check individual Skill descriptions). Lost Ark has Normal, Grab, Combo/Chain (press several times), Charge (pick the right direction), and Casting Skills.
Skill Points and Skill Trees
When you see players posting Lost Arc builds online, it’s usually a selection of Skill Points and Skill Trees. Since this game feature is central to the build system, here’s a quick rundown of how it works:
- Each Skill has its own Skill Tree which allows for further modifications. When a Skill reaches level 4, 7, and 10, a new Branch of the Skill Tree is unlocked, costing you 4, 20, and 48 Skill Points, respectively.
- After reaching level 50, you can earn more Skill Points by collecting Skill Potions from various quests, exchanging Island Tokens, collecting Adventurer’s Book rewards and clearing the Tower. If you want to strengthen your Lost Ark endgame build, these additional Skill Points are the way to go.
- Abilities can be further enhanced with Gems and Runes, which are rewards from endgame events such as Chaos gates, Guardian Raids, and Field Bosses.
- Late in the game, you’ll gain two Awakening Skills in Lost Ark. They tend to look stronger and great than your Normal Skills, but cannot be upgraded with Skill Points.
How to get the best Skill Tree build in Lost Ark
And the big question remains: Which Skills will be selected and which Skill Trees will be assigned? Here are some general rules and strategies to keep in mind:
- Try to allocate your Skill Points to unlock as many Skill Trees as possible (for example, having them at level 7 and 10 is better than at level 8 and 9.).
- Many Skill Tree effects change damage to a specific element type. If you’re about to fight a Boss with a certain elemental weakness, it’s worth the effort to modify your Skill Tree to match that element type.
- When in doubt, go for effects like increased Attack Speed or increased Critical Rate/Critical Damage. Only use effects such as increased radius of effect or reduced cooldown if you think you’re lacking in skill in these areas.
- Match your Runes with the most appropriate Skills. Bleed is a very powerful effect (causing damage over time), so use it on an active Skill for a long time to apply it as much as possible. Shielding while you use it is a great solution if you have a powerful ability that leaves you vulnerable for a few seconds.
Lost Ark stats revealed
Lost Ark weapons and armor stick to the usual Common (white) to Legendary (orange) tiers. In this sense, it is easy to see the difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ equipment.
However, besides the normal Attack Damage and HP, each gear comes with a special selection of ‘Combat Stats’ that are important to your build. If you want to participate in PvP matches, you must also assign Battle Stats. Here’s what each Lost Ark status means:
- Critical Ratio (Crit). Chance to critically strike (note: not the same as Critical Damage). This is very useful if the Skill Trees you selected already offer Critical Rate and Critical Damage buffs.
- agility. Increases Attack and Movement Speed and reduces Skill cooldowns. Important in almost all Lost Ark builds.
- Durability. Increases Defense, Heal, and Shield. If you’re going for a tanky build, prioritize.
- Sovereignty. Determines the amount of extra damage dealt to weakened, staggered, or pushed enemies. A good option if the Skills you choose can apply such effects.
- Expertise. Increases the effects of Debuff on enemies and reduces these effects on your own character. Also increases the damage dealt to staggered enemies.
- expertise. Increases a special damage type based on the class you choose. Generally increases Awakening Skill damage and reduces recharge times.
If you’re not sure which stats to focus on, try to maximize Quickness. It’s a must-have as it increases Attack and Movement Speed. Domination and Expertise are also very popular stats that should be prioritized.
Equip the best Engravings and Cards for your Lost Ark build
Engravings and Card Decals are two separate crafting mechanics in Lost Ark, but they provide the same thing: character buffs. You will receive your first Cards very early in the game (quest rewards, Adventurer’s Book, Boss drops) and Engraving will follow once you arrive at Castle Luterra. If you need some extra help, have a look at: Lost Arc Engravings guide.
It’s always wise to choose a build that suits your class, but generally speaking, the following Engravings are generally considered the most powerful:
- Cursed Baby: Increases Attack Damage at the expense of HP.
- Hatred: 9 Increases damage dealt to the boss as well as incoming damage.
- Awakening: Decreases the cooldown of Awakening Skill.
And these are some of the best Card Deck builds:
- Giants Forest: Greatly increases Magical and Physical Defense and also increases the effectiveness of recovery items.
- We Will Meet Again: Reduces incoming damage while at 50% HP or less. It also restores HP when you are at 20% or less HP.
- Oreha’s Well: Reduces damage from Abyss Raid monsters and increases damage dealt to enemies with 30% or less health.
- Goodbye, Gun and Field Boss: Increases HP %, great for defensive structures.
