How do you manage your new Slack notification schedules?

Loose now allows you choose when to get notifications daily, meaning you can finally stop getting weekend Slack pings.

Previously, Slack allowed you to set when you were “available” to receive notifications, but these preferences also rolled over to weekends. This meant you could get Slack distracting and unnecessary notifications on your computer or phone while enjoying an otherwise lazy Sunday.

You will now be able to set when you are eligible to receive notifications, but enable a comprehensive no notifications policy for weekends (or whatever day/time works best for your schedule) if you wish.

When you turn off notifications, you’ll be in Slack’s Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, meaning other users in your Slack workspace will see a small “z” next to your name indicating your status. If you turn on Slack while on DND, you’ll still see red badges on channels where you or your keyword is mentioned, and for any direct messages, but you won’t get a notification about those messages. (If needed, people can still send you a notification by texting you directly while on DND and forcing Slack to send you a notification.)

If you want to fine-tune your Slack notifications, here’s how to do it.

In the desktop app:

  1. Click the arrow next to your Slack organization name, then hover over “Pause notifications.” Click “Set a notification schedule” in the menu that opens.
  2. In the menu that opens, under the “Allow notifications” heading, there will be a drop-down menu that lets you choose whether you want to allow notifications daily, only on weekdays, or on a special schedule. There are also drop-down menus that allow you to choose the times you are available to receive notifications.

In mobile apps:

  1. Tap the “You” icon at the far right of the toolbar, then tap “Notifications”.
  2. In the Notifications menu, tap “Notification Calendar”
  3. Next, tap “Allow notifications”; You can choose whether you want to receive notifications every day, only on weekdays, or on a special schedule.

This much! After you set your preferences, they should sync across your devices. Hopefully, customizing these settings can reduce the number of notifications you receive when you don’t want to, and you can enjoy weekends without Slack notifications.
