Instagram is a great way to not only stay in touch with your family, but also have fun with your friends, market your side business or share your art. But followers who love to see your special jewelry might not care about your dog’s latest quirks. It makes sense to manage multiple accounts to appeal to your multiple interests and multiple audiences.
That’s why in 2017 Instagram introduced the option to link up to five different accounts to your email address and access them quickly and easily from the same app. Now you can have an account for your baby, your cat, your job, and anything or anyone you want to share with the world.
How to Add New Instagram Account?
If you already have an Instagram account, adding another should be easy. You have already installed the application. Now you just have to create a new login with a new username and link it to the account you already have.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the Options icon.
- Faucet Settings.
- Scroll down.
- Faucet add account.
- Enter a username and password for the new account.
Note that you cannot create a new account this way. You must first create the account. You can do this by going to Instagram.com and tapping Sign Up. Make sure to associate the new account with the same phone number.
How to Switch Between Instagram Accounts?
Now that you have multiple accounts, it’s time to figure out how to easily access each one. The good news is that you don’t have to constantly log out of one account and log back in to another.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the username at the top of the screen.
- Tap the name of the account you want to switch to.
How to Remove Account from List
If you decide that you are no longer interested in maintaining your fashion account, or you have a new account that you want to spend more time on, then you can remove an account from the list. This will not completely delete the account and you can still log back in at any time. It will not be available for quick access as described above.
- Go to the profile of the account you want to remove.
- Tap the Options icon.
- Faucet Settings.
- Scroll down.
- Faucet sign out [username].
You can always add this account again later.
Tips for Managing Multiple Accounts
Having multiple accounts under your belt can be overwhelming, especially if you’re using all five slots. It’s important to keep a few things in mind when managing accounts to avoid missing notifications and making potentially embarrassing mistakes.
- Know which account you are using. It can be surprisingly easy to send something to your account, especially if you’re in a hurry, assuming you’re using a different account.
- Your feed only displays accounts that your current account follows. Each of your accounts is a different entity, following different people. The feed you are viewing is for your currently active account only. Remember this.
- Push notifications only work for the currently active account. Push notifications can be enabled or disabled for individual accounts. However, the notifications you will see will only be for your currently active account. Go to your profile and tap on the username to see notifications for each account.
Can I Have More Than Five Accounts?
Five easily accessible accounts not enough for you? Unfortunately, Instagram shuts you out at five. However, there are some ways people try to work around this problem.
For starters, you can try cloning the app. Normally, you can only have one copy of an app on your phone. If you clone this app, you may have more than one. Sometimes this will allow you to double down on features like with Instagram accounts. There are several third-party apps that make this possible.
But honestly, isn’t five too much?
