Top 10 WhatsApp Font Tricks You Should Know

Although WhatsApp supports voice and video calls, messaging remains its core functionality. Whether it’s good morning wishes, jokes, forwards or important messages – people prefer to send them over text. And what better way to make them stronger using text formatting?

No, we are not talking about changing the text in WhatsApp Status, we are talking about text messages. Here we will share some great WhatsApp font tips and tricks to add more dramatic impact to your messages.

Let’s start.

1. Make Text Bold

WhatsApp comes with a built-in feature that lets you make your messages bold. You can make text bold when you need to emphasize a critical point.

Add an asterisk to do this

before and after the message. For example, in the message Android is better than iOS, if you want to emphasize the word better, you should write it like this - Android is *better* than iOS. When you do this, you will see that the text is now bold. Tap on Send.

2. Italicize Text

Similarly, if you want to italicize the text, you can do that too. Italicizing a text is useful when you want to highlight an important part.

To do this, add an underscore (_) before and after the text. For example, the message _Be careful what you wish will display the word careful in italics.

3. Strikethrough Message

Sometimes you want to create a dramatic effect by crossing out text to represent a correction or iteration. This is possible by adding a strike to your message.

To add a line to your message, put a tilde (~) on either side of the word(s). Let's say you want to write the best social network Instagram by hacking Facebook. You have to enter text like ~Facebook~ Instagram is the best social network.

4. Change Font

Apart from the standard font, WhatsApp also supports Monospace font. However, there is no general setting in WhatsApp to change the font for each text. You have to change it separately for each message.

To change the font, enclose the text with three back ticks (“`). The text should be like this “`How are you?”`

5. Change Text Format Using WhatsApp Options

Instead of using shortcuts to format text, you can use the built-in settings. On Android, tap and hold the message and select the appropriate formatting option. Tap the three-dot icon to view more options. Tap and hold the text on iPhone and select the option that indicates BIU. Then choose bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace formatting.

6. Combine Formatting Options

Whether you’re using shortcuts or locales, you can combine different formatting options for a word or phrase. Meaning, you can make the same text bold, italic and even change the font to Monospace.

To do this, enclose the text in the relevant symbols. The only thing you need to pay attention to is their layout. The symbol entered first will be closed last. For example, we entered an asterisk first in this *~_disney_~* word. Now we'll put it to the end.
