Pokemon Go Mega Charizard Y Raid guide counters and move sets

Mega Charizard Y is returning to Mega Raids for a limited time in Pokemon Go. Trainers will want meters to fight him and gain as much Mega Energy from him as possible for a number of reasons.

While the first reason isn’t quite as unique as its sibling, the Mega Charizard X, the Y Mega gives Pokemon Go trainers the option to increase their team’s Fire and Fly-type attacks during Raid Battles. The second reason is that Mega Energy gained from battles against Charizard Y can be used to Mega Evolve Charizard to his X form.

So if you plan to use Mega Charizard Energy, it will benefit you to fight Mega Charizard Y in the next few weeks. Mega Charizard Y will be available in Mega Raids from Tuesday, March 22 to Tuesday, April 5, to help us find this guide to help find the best Pokemon to use against it.

Pokemon Go Mega Charizard Y Counters

Mega Charizard Y preserves the normal Charizard’s Fire and Flying spell, making it vulnerable to Water, Electric, and Stone-type attacks. Rock attacks are the best way to take it down as Mega Charizard is four times weak against Y. And fortunately for trainers, the Mega Aerodactyl is now in-game, giving them access to a powerful Mega that can amplify the attacks of other Rock types on their team.

Going with a full Rock-type team with Mega Aerodactyl, Rhyperior, and Tyranitar is a great way to easily take down this Pokemon. Throw in others like Terrakion and even Golem and Rampardos will really help.

Trainers wanting to go the water route will want to bring Mega Gyarados or Blastoise into battle. Gyarados hits a little harder, but Blastoise is a great, relatively inexpensive option with access to the Hydro Cannon. Roll your water suit with mighty Pokemon like Kyogre.

Electric type users should bring Mega Manectric as it deals a lot of damage and is at least neutral to all Mega Charizard’s attacks, we’ll explain later. Complete your electric team with powerful Pokemon like Zekrom.

Here is a list of possible options to counter Mega Charizard Y in Pokemon Go.

Mega Charizard Y Movement Set

Charizard has a wide variety of attacks in Pokemon Go. Without Community Day-specific moves, Mega Charizard Y’s move set is more limited, but can still do a lot of damage depending on what Pokemon trainers bring into battle.

Fire Spin and Air Slash are the main Quick Attacks that all Rock types will resist. Electric types will also resist Mega Charizard Y’s Flying moves, while Water types will resist Fire type attacks.

As for the Mega Charizard Y’s Charged Attacks, it has access to Fire Blast and Overheat and no Flying-type moves. She has Dragon Claw, a dragon-type attack, and can provide some protection against Non-Steel and Fairy-types. Therefore, Mega Ampharos is not the best choice as it is weak against Dragon Claw while resisting Fire type attacks.

Zekrom is also weak against Dragon Claw, so it might not last long against Mega Charizard Y, but it’s still a great option.
