How to complete the Elden Ring Varre questline 1

How to complete the Elden Ring Varre questline

The Elden Ring Varre questline is a relatively short and easy-to-complete questline that rewards players with really useful items. PvP invasion buffs in Elden Ring will definitely want to look for Varre as he will give you an item that allows you to invade forever. It will also distribute an item that allows you to teleport to a hidden, high-level boss. If you’re wondering how to start and complete the Varre questline in Elden Ring, here’s what you need to know.

Varre questline guide for Elden Ring

There’s no doubt you’ve spoken to Varre at least once already – he’s the first friendly (also somewhat shady-looking) NPC you meet right in front of the first open-world Grace Site called First Step. on the map. Once you have successfully learned how to defeat Godrick in Elden Ring, return to him and drop the vaccinated monster to start the quest properly. Note that this mission involves player versus player invasions, so you’ll have to play Elden Ring online.

Since the Elden Ring Varre questline involves a lot of going back and forth, you can use this map to see exactly where the key locations are for the main quest steps:

  1. Talk to Varre after defeating Godrick. He will congratulate you and tell you to look for a Two-Finger audience in Roundtable Hold.
  2. Go to the Round Table Holding main roomSpeak to the Finger Reader sitting right behind you from where you were born and next to the giant toes. Make sure you exhaust his dialog options. The Rated Power menu will also be displayed during this process.
  3. Find Varre at the front entrance of the Rose Church and talk to him. If you go back to the First Step, you will find that Varre has left a message calling you to the Rose Church, west of the sunken Academy Gate Town in Liurnia. You can reach this church by fast traveling to Academy Gate Town Site of Grace and catching Torrent directly west. In the middle of the wetlands, you’ll stumble upon a small island with a ruined church on it – watch out for the bloody duelist you’ll encounter if you enter the ruins.
  4. Tell Varre you think Two Fingers “doesn’t seem right”. to further the quest. If you tell him you think these are great, the conversation will be over, but you can talk to him again and tell him “something is wrong” to get back on track in Two Fingers. Varre will later share the opinion that Two Fingers cannot be trusted and is apparently corrupt. Keep talking to him and he’ll give you five Festering Bloody Fingers – a consumable that lets you invade another player’s world and hunt and kill them.
  5. Use three Festering Bloody Fingers to invade other players. It doesn’t matter whether you beat the player or not, as long as you invade three times. Open your inventory, find Festering Bloody Finger, then select ‘Redeem’. You’ll soon be transported to another Elden Ring player’s world.
  6. Return to Varre at the Rose Church and choose to be appointed as a Mohg knight, the Blood Lord. Varre will then give you a piece of white cloth called Lord of Blood’s Blessing, which you must soak in the blood of a virgin for your final test.
  7. Go to Elden Ring Blocking Church in northern Liurnia and find the dead virgin sitting on a chair, then follow the button prompt to dye the fabric with the maiden’s blood. Be warned that reaching this church is quite difficult and will require you to pass through several dangerous areas with enemies that can apply the Madness status effect. There is also an Invader in the church named Festering Fingerprint Vyke, so be prepared. A safer alternative is to return to the Church of Prospect, but you can only do so if you have access to the correct teleporter in the Four Bell Towers in Liurnia.
  8. Return to Varre at the Rose Church and will officially declare you a Mohg knight. However, the next part is pretty brutal but necessary to fully complete the mission.
  9. Follow the button prompt to present your finger to Varre so it can cut it. Keep talking to him later to get all your rewards for the Elden Ring Varre questline mentioned below.

By allowing Varre to cut off your finger, he will give you an Elden Ring Bloody Finger in return – an item that functions exactly like the Festering Bloody Finger, but allows you to invade forever as it is never consumed.

Then continue talking to Varre and he will give you a Thoroughbred Knight Medal that will allow you to gain an audience with Mohg. Using this item from your inventory will teleport you to Mohgwyn Palace, which is technically a very high level area below Caelid where you can clash with Mohg in a boss fight. The only other way to access this area is through a portal from Elden Ring’s very late game stages. Despite Varre’s warning not to use it yet, there’s no downside to doing this, other than that if you’re not high enough you’ll probably die, so don’t push your luck in the dangerous palace.
